The party located a War Room. There was a map of the area with indications of future and completed raids. Torin made a copy of it. There were also fancy monster hides hanging on the wall. Torin noticed a door behind the manticore hide.

Behind the door were a stairway down and a pile of wood. Carric searched the woodpile and found some scroll tubes. He pulled out the pieces of parchment. One showed instructions for an upcoming raid, signed in elvish. Another was a map of the giants' steading.

The party went down the stairs. They changed their marchin order going down, which seemed more significant to some than to others. The party followed a corridor to a portcullis. Yoshi and Carric lifted the portcullis, and the party passed through.

After they crossed the room, four manticores appeared in the doorway, and the portcullis dropped.
Carric cast Flame Strike on the group of them.
A manitcore charged Carric and bit him.
Yoshi charged the manticore that attacked Carric.
Another manticore flung six tail spikes at Talon; five hit.
Another manticore charged Talon and bit her; she started to teeter. A spike flew from another, and Talon fell to the ground unconscious.

Carric cast Fireball on the manticores, dropping one.
The manticore by Carric clawed him twice.
Caelesti cast Haste on the party, including the unconscious Talon.
Yoshi attacked the manticores in a flurry of blows, dropping two.
Torin cast Cure Serious Wounds on Talon.
The remaining manticore flung six tail spikes at Carric; four hit.
Talon crawled away from the melee.

Carric cast another Fireball on the manticores, killing the last one.
Torin cast a cure on Carric.
Carric was thankful.

The manticores were guarding seven chests and six boxes. Caelesti cast Detect Magic, but detected none. She reported that there were no magical traps ... and opened an empty box. Yoshi opened the rest of the boxes, trying to keep Caelesti from harm, in case there were non-magical traps. When he tried to open the first chest, a needle shot out, but missed him. The chest was locked. Caelesti cast four Knock spells to unlock all seven chests. They contained copper coins, silver coins, gold coins and a vial, copper ingots, 11 ivory tusks, and hundreds of gems. The chest with the gems did not appear to be as deep as the others. Carric searched the base, and a needle shot out at him. Yoshi broke into the base of the chest, but it was empty.

The party headed out to rest and recover.

Talon: We wonder how long we can keep battling sleeping giants.
Talon: We do not get XP for loot in this campaign. But we do get lots of loot!!
Talon: Giant's wife may discover her pet has been defeated while we are still her or not.
