In the middle of the night, a thumping noise woke the party. The watchers noticed some flickering purple lights miles away. The party headed out on foot to investigate.

It took the party 3 hours to get there. By that time, the lights had all disappeared. The party investigated the area, finding a sacrificed high elf on an altar by some standing stones. The body was missing its heart and brain. Torin was outraged, blaming the dark elves.

Talon found a bird-like footprint. She recalled mind flayers having footprints like that, and that mind flayers ate brains.

Torin was able to follow the tracks for a quarter mile until they reached a cave. Yoshi turned on a watch lamp and led the party into the cave. Caelesti stopped the party to cast spells.

Father into the cave, there were white bones. The skull had extra holes; perhaps its brain was eaten too. The party continued inward.

At the first fork in the corridor, the party took the smellier passage. They did the same at the next one. This passage led to a pool with a dead, smelly body partially in the water. The party moved up to investigate.

Three carrion crawlers climbed down the walls.
Yoshi punched one.
A crawler swung a tentacle at Caelesti.
Torin swung his sword at one.
A crawler swung a tentacle at Yoshi.
Mongo struck the one Torin attacked.
The last crawler attacked Talon, but missed.

Yoshi attacked the crawler the others attacked, dropping it.
Caelesti cast Haste on everyone.
Torin hastened to the other damaged crawler and struck it.
The carrion crawler missed Torin with 8 separate tentacle attacks.
Talon backed away from a crawler and started singing an inspiring song.
Mongo hastened to the same crawler and killed it.
The crawler by Talon struck her with two tentacles, but Talon remained paralysis-free.

Yoshi moved to the last crawler and kicked it.
Caelsti backed away.
Torin attacked and killed the last crawler.

The party, except Caelesti, moved on. Caelesti cast Detect Magic and concentrated for half a minute, noting Divination magic on the far side of the water. Caelesti told Yoshi via the Communications Rings. The party returned to the pool. Yoshi swam about the pool until he found a ring.

The ring looked a lot like the Communications Rings that Yoshi and Caelesti were wearing. Torin tried to communicate with the other ring, but got no response. Torin then attuned the new ring with the other two.

The party all moved on to another passage. It led to a room with 3 mindflayers. Two of the creatures were looking over some papers on a table.

One of the mindflayers sent a mind blast at the half of the party, stunning Mongo.
Another did a mind blast, affecting nobody else.
Yoshi charged a mindflayer, stunning it with a punch.
Talon began singing an inspiring song.
Torin advanced.
The last mindflayer blasted Torin, but he sluffed it off.

A mindflayer stunned Torin with a mindblast.
Yoshi struck the same one three times, dropping it. He struck the next one too.
Caelesti advanced, drawing her Metamagic Sculpting Rod, and cast a Fireball in a strange shape around the table; Spell Resistance protected the mindflayers from damage. A flayer attempted to stun Yoshi.
The other one picked up papers from the table.
Talon sang a song to inspire greatness in Yoshi.

Yoshi struck the next one three times, dropping it.
Caelesti shot the last one with Magic Missiles.
The mindflayer cast a spell and disappeared; Talon identified the spell as Planeshift.

The party searched the dead flayers, finding gems, a book, and a note signed in elvish. Talon read the elvish name as Eclavdra, the name behind the giants' evil orders.

Talon: We conclude our shopping in Rowansmeade and head back to the Cave? to the mules and mamoth?
Talon: Talon has 299 gold
Talon: we feed the mules and pet them
Talon: we check that the mamoth is well fed, grazing on his own
Talon: Others Teleport first, leaving Carric and Talon, while they shop in Rowansmeade.
Talon: The others shop for us, per our requests.
Talon: The others return with their stuff and our new and improved stuff and we are all happy.
Talon: Carric didn't get lucky with Talon while the rest were away and so he is grumpy and drinks a lot and goes to bed early.

Talon: Baleful Red Glare overhead in sky. Bane Moon is more obvious than it has been for months.

Talon: Yoshi notices, below the cave, a pass from a plane to a valley..
Talon: He looks across and sees a hill on oppostie side and on top are flickers of Purple Light.
Talon: Might be standing stones.
Talon: Location might be 2 hours away.
Talon: It is not the type of flickering light Yoshi has seen before.
Talon: Yoshi shakes Caelesti gently after consulting with Torin and Mongo.
Talon: Yoshi talks to Talon then notices she is still asleep, then shakes her gently or so.
Talon: Talon dreamed she was eating a tough marshmellow. Is this a significant dream?
Talon: Yoshi shakes Carric and he is dead to the world.
Talon: He stinks of wine.
Talon: Yoshi suggests we leave Smokey here to stomp, I mean "guard" Carric.
Talon: We can not see the source of the purple lights.
Talon: We guess it is magic.
Talon: We leave the mules.
Talon: We decide to walk, not fly so as not to use up too many spells... ??
Talon: we would fly at 60 and it would last 1 hour
Talon: we could wait until we get to the hill and then fly
Talon: Caelesti wants to keep her flies to herself, for now. So we treck and climb.
Talon: We get to the hill, after a long walk.
Talon: We see an alter and smell something unusual and acrid and see there is something lying on the alter.
Talon: It is a body.
Talon: The body's chest is open and missing a part. The head is open and appears to be missing a brain.
Talon: The body's chest is open and missing a heart.

Talon: No one appears to be around.

Talon: It is the body of an elf and Torin is outraged!!
Talon: It is a male, High Elf, or was.

Talon: The track points northish and we head that way.

Talon: Torin is able to follow a trail of tracks for 1/4 mile until they pass behind bushes and disappear into a cave.

Talon: It will be dark inside the cave, even after dawn, says Yoshi.
Talon: Yoshi turns on his Watch Lamp and leads us into the cave.
Talon: Cave mouth is 8ft wide
Talon: Yoshi leads us deeper into the cave, where it widens out.
Talon: Then it narrows again on the opposite end.
Talon: Caelesti casts Mage Armor on herself and Yoshi. And Eagles Splendor on herself.
Talon: Caelesti then pulls out a rod, while Yoshi examines a blotch on the wall.
Yoshi: wight of bones
Talon: It appears to be white bones
Talon: Yoshi tosses a pebble at it.
Talon: There is a skull among the bones. Skull has extra holes.
Talon: Talon - as though something ate the brains out? Mind Flayer?
Talon: We round the path to another opening and some choices of route.

Talon: We have 3 dosages of water breathing potion left, in Carric's keeping.
Talon: Pool smells bad. Yoshi dives and looks around. He finds a small silver ring inscribed with a word in Draconic. Talon knows it - word for friendship.
