With Carric under the weather, Yoshi didn't want to take on too big of a group. Caelesti suggested that he scout the rest of the area, using a single Invisibility spell. She cast Message on everyone, and Invisibility on Yoshi.

Yoshi scouted many corridors and rooms, finding only one occupied. He then started opening closed doors, but forgot to listen at it. While he was throwing himself at the door to break it open, it was opened from the other side by a gastly hill giant and his two pet apes. Yoshi whispers, via the spell, "I need your help!"

Yoshi figured that they would exit the room and spot the party anyway, so he struck the ape.
The ape swung at Yoshi, but missed.
The giant threw a large rock at Yoshi, also missing.
Mongo, excited about fighting giants, ran up to attack.
Caelesti moved to see into the room, drawing her dagger on route.
Torin moved behind the front-line fighters.
Talon began singing.

Yoshi struck the ape three times, killing it.
The giant struck Yoshi twice with a great club.
Mongo struck the giant with Torin's spare longsword.
Another ape struck Mongo from above. It was holding onto the wall above the door.
Caelesti cast Haste on those nearest the battle.
Torin and Talon both cast cures on Yoshi.

The hasted Yoshi struck the giant four times.
The giant struck back, but missed.
Mongo struck the giant three times.

Yoshi struck the giant, dropping it. He backed out of the room so the ape would have to drop to the ground to attack them. Mongo followed suit.
The ape dropped to the ground and struck Yoshi.

Yoshi struck the ape twice, dropping it.

The party searched the room. A Detect Magic revealed a giant-sized battleaxe and a stone on the floor. Yoshi prised up the stone to reveal a small treasure cache (5500 gps, gems, and a jug of Water Breathing potion).

The party moved off to confront the stone giants. Talon reminded the party that the stone giants could be friendly, like the ones that gave the party the wheel of cheese. The party agreed to attempt diplomacy first, and attack only if necessary. The giants were not hostile, and were content to simply continue the digging they were paid to do.

The party lined up by another closed door. Mongo opened it. Two bugbears stood in a corridor behind it, one by a gong.

Caelesti cast Sleep on the bugbear by the gong, dropping.
Mongo charged the other one, striking it.
The bugbear surrendered.
Yoshi tied both bugbears.

The awake, tied-up bugbear smacked his head against the gong.
Yoshi knocked him out.

Cells beyond the bugbear guards contained an elf, two humans, and more orc slaves. The party freed them all. The elf introduced himself as Fibulos. Fibulos said he was caught scouting for the evil influence on the giants. He said that the chieftain would be the one in communications with this influence. Yoshi showed Fibulos the letter from the war room. He recognized the name on the letter as being a drow elf.

One human was an architect, and the other was insane. Torin cast Panacea on the insane one, bringing him back to reality.

As there was no good way to sneak out past the others upstairs, the prisoners followed the party. The last locked door had a padlock on it. The party tried keys from a box of keys until the lock opened. A passage led to another padlocked door. The party opened that lock too. A room behind was a wine cellar of sorts.

The party finally went to investigate a circular room with a pool. With a rope tied around him, Yoshi dived into the pool. It was 14' deep with a side passage leading out. He came back and said he wanted to investigate further with Water Breathing (and without the rope). The corridor led to an underground river. Carrion crawlers surprised Yoshi in one area. After some discussion via magical rings, Yoshi returned to the party.

The party decided to escape through the upstairs with their freed friends. Invisible scouts helped time the retreat. Things went according to plan.

Talon: Caelesti casts Message on everyone and Invisibility on Yoshi.
Talon: Yoshi prepares to scout.
Talon: Carric is still feeling poorly.
Talon: Yoshi finds a new room. It is filled with tools for digging, many sized for Giants others for smaller creatures. There is a door locked with a huge padlock.
Talon: Yoshi goes down another hallday and finds a circular room with a pool of water.
Talon: A dark liquid.
Talon: Hello, Caelesti? Can't hear you and hear static.
Talon: Yoshi goes to another area and finds more rooms. In a large room there is an area still being dug out/cleared and another hallway/passage.
Talon: It leads to another unremarkable area being cleared.

Talon: Then, down another passage, he needs to do a Spot.

Talon: Peeking his head around a corner into a room he sees chests and sacks and tables and 2 large grey creatures, Stone Giants.

Talon: Yoshi tells us all to hide in a corner while he opens a door in another area entirely, having moved silently enough to escape detection by the 3 Stone Giants.
Talon: We hide up a corridor.
Talon: He takes 20 to open the door, if necessary. And he does NOT listen first.
Talon: He keeps kicking it until it opens.
Talon: The creatures inside the room open it for Yoshi.
Talon: A hiedous one-eyed Hill Giant await Yoshi and his two ape companions.

Talon: Yoshi opens the chest, crates and barrels and boxes. He finds misc dead junk.
Talon: We find Keeper's Axe is magical and there is a magical spot on the floor.

Talon: The floor is paved with stones and we search.
Talon: Caelesti looks with her monocle and decides the school of magic ia alteration.
Talon: Yoshi pokes the stone with a weapon and finds the stone is loose and can be levered up.
Talon: It reveals a little treasure chamber down below.
Talon: Yoshi pushes the magic stone into the corner so no one touches it accidentally.
Talon: In the hole is gold and gems and large earthenware jug.
Talon: It is not a room, just a cache of loot.
Talon: Caelesti looks at jug, which appears to have a magical aura.
Talon: Yoshi lever up jug so Caelesti can peer in. It has multiple doses of water breating. Pulls out gold and gems. 7900 total value. 4 potions worth of water breathing.
Talon: Yoshi wants to go after the Stone Giants next.
Talon: Talon says the Stone Giants we met on the road gave us a giant wheel of cheese and were friendly to us.
Talon: Yoshi says let's talk to them then.
Talon: Yoshi leads the way.
Talon: He walks into the Stone Giant room and says, "Hail!"
Talon: Grantie, Marble, and Gravel say they have been hired to excavate. They are surprised to see us.
Talon: They don't care what goes on "up there" as long as they keep being paid. We are free to attack the giants if we want.
Talon: They are paid in cold, yellow gold.
Talon: Yoshi is considering offering them several weeks payment to .....nevermind.
Talon: Yoshi mentions his name is Brother Yoshi.
Talon: Yoshi and the Stone Brothers get on well together and we all back up and we go.
Talon: Yoshi leads us to another door in another part of the basement.

Talon: Talon asks if he will listen this time before kicking it in?
Talon: He hears low gutteral talking.
Talon: Yoshi tells us he is going in.

Talon: He invites Mongo to kick down the door, actually, and he does so gladly and well.
Talon: The door swings in and we see a hallway with many doors with barred windows.
Talon: And see.... two Bugbears.

Talon: There is gong next to door by the Bugbear closest to Yoshi.

Talon: Therefore he doesn't hit the gong.

Talon: Yoshi moves into position and Bugbear 100 yields. He surrenders.
Talon: He says he knows what we are doing, we are here to rescue HIM. He points to one door in particular.
Talon: Yoshi bids him sit down to be tied up.

Talon: We do not have rope use in the party as learned.

Talon: Yoshi does his best, then looks through the bars. It is dark inside. He calls in, "Hello."
Talon: He hears shuffling.
Talon: He gets keys off the Bugbear 100 and opens the door.
Talon: 99 has shifted a little, he looks at Yoshi and smiles.
Talon: Yoshi asks Mongo to watch them Bugbears.
Talon: Yoshi finds there is no key to that particular cell.
Talon: One of the Hill Giant's chests had 78 keys or not as the case might be.
Talon: The bugbear 99 suggests we pry the lock.
Yoshi rolls Atk:Unarmed Flurry 1/2: (d20+10) : [13 + 10] = 23
Yoshi rolls Dmg:Unarmed: (2d6+2) : [6 + 5 + 2] = 13
Talon: 99 staggers to 100 and then hurls his head against the gong and it goes off.
Talon: Yoshi whacks Bugbear 99 and he falls over.
Yoshi rolls Dmg:Kama/Siagham: (d6+2) : [3 + 2] = 5
Yoshi rolls Dmg:Kama/Siagham: (d6+2) : [1 + 2] = 3
Talon: No aid will arrive as all other Bugbears have been slain except these two.
Talon: Yoshi kills both 99 and 100. So all are dead now.
Talon: Yoshi pries open the lock and opens the door and looks in. There appears to be 3 skelletons lying on the ground.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Spot: (d20+11+4) : [15 + 11 + 4] = 30
Talon: Yoshi says hello and skelleton rustle a bit.
Talon: Yoshi sees nothing invisible.
Talon: He steps into the room. The 3 skelletons all stand up and he attacks them and kills them. They are each wearing a brass ring with a gem.
Talon: We realize they are brass rings with glass not real gems.
Talon: Yoshi looks in another jail cell and hears creatures grunting they want out. They smell like Orcs. They are grateful.
Talon: They offer to help us find The Resistance. They are delighted when Caelesti tells them the entrance is open and all the Bugbers down here are dead.
Talon: Next room =
Talon: An Elf chained to the wall.
Talon: Yoshi frees him immediately and quickly. He is a High Elf. Yoshi calls to Torin to come cure him.
Talon: Yoshi introduces himself and then frees others.
Talon: Finds a human cowering in another room.
Talon: Yoshi engages them in conversation and plies them for information.
DM/Torin: I am Fibulos the High Elf
Talon: He has expertise in fighting and magic. He came to scout. He and his elf clan think something sinister is influencing them. Yoshi says, we think that too.
Talon: Fibulos says he was captured after seeing their chieftan, a Hill Giant of course.
Talon: He says the Chieftan is in communication with who or whatever is guiding this. He says we should find their counsel room.
Talon: Talon recalls a map and letter.
Talon: Yoshi will show these to Fibulos.
Talon: He recongnises the map of the upper level of the steading. He says the other is instructions for next raid, but name signed is in elvish script and not a High Elven name, but Dark Elven name. He explains to us about Dark Elves.
Talon: Talon asks if they are friends with Mind Flayers.
Talon: He says yes they would. There are no such thing as good Dark Elves. Attack them on site.
Talon: One of the captive humans was captured architect forced to direct their excavations.
Talon: Human from last cell, looks at us and grins broadly and puts hands over stomach and says, "Cheese, cheese, cheese..." and laughs.... insanely.
Talon: Can Torin help him?
DM/Torin: Torin casts Panacea on the insane wretch - and his eyes clear and comes to his senses.
Talon: He is unaware of where he is. Last he recalls he had a cart full of goods and was going past entrance to valley and a bunch of Giants grabbed him and clubbed him. He is just merchant from Town X.
Talon: Caelesti wants to explore one more room.
Talon: Yoshi goes through the chest of keys and finds one that fits the lock of a door in another room, where we have not explored.
Talon: Yoshi unlocks the door. Brave Caelesti is at his side.
Talon: We see - a T corridor. Yoshi enters and looks N and S.
Talon: He finds a deadend up north and asks an Elf to search. They find nothing.
Talon: To the south is another padlocked door and same key fits it.
Talon: Yoshi opens door with Torin and finds barrels and casks.
Talon: 5 gallon kegs perhaps each sealed with black wax impressed with a death's head.

Talon: Yoshi invites Caelesti to check it out.
Talon: No magic detected.
Talon: This is a wine cellar.
Talon: We go to the circular room and check out the water, which Yoshi dips his finger in and touches it to his tongue.
Talon: Yoshi's tongue gets wetter and tastes cool water.
Talon: Water tastes fresh.
Talon: Yoshi turns on his watch lamp and dives in with breath held. Yoshi asks to be tied to a rope.
Talon: Torin or Mongo comply and hold one end of rope to pull him out if needed.
Talon: Yoshi dives in, swims down and down 14 ft deep. There is an outlet of finished stone, obviously manmade.
Talon: He passes through the outlet and it goes into a passage which continues and he can't hold his breath any more and doesn't have enough rope either and swims back up to us.
Talon: The outlet goes up, northish.
Talon: Should Yoshi gon on his own or with others. Is there enough potion for us all to make it through.
Talon: Talon says perhaps Yoshi should go ahead and drink one potion and explore for us.
Talon: With water breathing Yoshi could speak via message or ring.
Talon: Yoshi has to give a ring to someone and retune it. He gives it to Caelesti.
Talon: Yoshi tunes his rings, drinks and dives. He swims into the passage below. It brings him to the north.
Talon: Not far away he comes to the surface. It is pitch black and there is a current going strongly to the left. It is underground.
Talon: He shines his watch lamp upon it. A current draws him to the left.
Talon: He beaches on a ledge.
Talon: He is in a cavern. There are other ledges. Water flows deeper into the earth to the left.
Talon: To the right, there appears to be an opening .
Talon: Yoshi looks around the corner, up to the right and sees....
Talon: It opens up into a larger cavern.

Talon: He listens and spots.... Hears some rustling off to the right.

Talon: He is not hit. A tentacle bushes by him.
Talon: While in the water he reports and discusses what he found to Caelesti.
Talon: Caelesti relates his situation.
Talon: Yoshi requests a single, strong backup person to help him.
Talon: Caelesti opinions we may find a way out, but not anything of value.
Talon: Yoshi returns on same potion.
Talon: We decide to escpae and return to the counsel room another time.
