Back in Rowansmede, Mavis brought Talon and Caelesti along to sell the trade goods. Mavis said she had a lot to teach Caelesti, but Caelest didn't pay much attention to the bartering, and merely distracted the merchant. Mavis sold the goods for great profit. She shared the profits with the party; each received 15,000 gp.

The party then went shopping. Everyone bought magic items.

Excited about the shopping, the party went to Nessey's parents' house to collect another reward. Nessey's mother was upset that the party didn't bring Nessey straight home. Nessey's father paid the party double (2000 gp each) for the extra 9 months of peace.

Talon later dragged Mavis and Caelesti to the inn for a girls' night out. Talon was interested in meeting men; Mavis specifically didn't want to meet men since she was saving herself for Gareth; and Caelesti was only interested in dancing and refreshments.

Days later, the party had received all their ordered magic items.

Mavis got word that Gareth was returning to town. She was confused that his note asked her to bring the whole party to meet at a house on the edge of town, instead of meeting her alone anywhere (since they hadn't seen each other for a year). But she obediently did as the note said.

The whole party went to the house. Talon was suspicious and quaffed an Invisibility Potion before she followed the others in. The butler seemed a bit creepy, but the party, except Mavis, waited patiently none-the-less. Mavis was nervous about seeing Gareth.

After 10 minutes (a long 10 minutes for Mavis) the party was escorted farther into the house. The butler had the party wait again while he went to get the master. Talon hid on the far side of the room.

Gareth followed a fighter escort into the room. Mavis exclaimed how happy she was to see Gareth. Gareth said it was important that she brought her friends. Caelesti asked how that was important. Yoshi could tell that something was up. Then, Fiona (a woman that the party had arrested) entered the room behind Gareth. Mavis' jaw dropped. Fiona taunted Mavis by displaying her closeness to Gareth. Mavis, seething, drew her rapier, gave Yoshi a haunted stared, quaffed a potion, and disappeared.

Caelesti backed up to the door, and cast extended Magic Armor on herself.
Talon moved across the room to stand next to Caelesti. She whispered "Wand of Break Enchantment" to Caelesti; Caelesti responded "I can't use it."
Carric started casting.
Fiona cast a spell.
Gareth cast a spell, and a large hand appeared in front of him.
Four zombies entered the room from behind Fiona.
Yoshi charged a fighter.

Caelesti cast Tasha's Hideous Laughter on the fighter just standing there, but he was unaffected. She then pulled the requested wand out of her haversack.
Talon grabbed the wand from Caelesti and used it on Gareth.
Carric summoned a polar bear that immediately clawed and bit the fighter that resisted Caelesti's spell.
Carric then cast Flame Strike on the crowd of opponents, destroying the zombies and damaging the others.
Fiona glared at Caelesti and said "I can cast Flame Strike too". She started casting Flame Strike and Mavis suddenly appeared next to her and stuck a rapier in her side. Fiona, with great concentration, completed her spell.
Gareth shot a scorching ray at Mavis, but missed.
Yoshi blinked next to Gareth and attacked with a flurry of blows, hitting once.
The two fighters attacked the polar bear; one hit.

The polar bear continued to maul the fighter, dropping him.
Carric cast Cure Serious Wounds on Caeleti, bringing her around.
Caelesti stood up and cast Haste on Yoshi, Mavis, and the polar bear.
Mavis attacked Fiona three times, hitting once.
Fiona cast a spell and attempted to touch Mavis, but missed.
Gareth cast an Enervating Ray at Yoshi, hitting him squarely in the chest, adding three negative levels.
Yoshi struck Gareth twice.
The fighter attacked the polar bear, but missed.

The polar bear mauled the remaining fighter, dropping him.
Carric cast Cure Moderate Wounds on Talon, bringing her around.
Caelesti move to see better and cast Magic Missiles at Fiona.
Talon stood up and cast Cure Serious Wounds on herself.
Mavis taunted Fiona some more and stabbed her.
Fiona attempted to touch Mavis with her charged-up hand again, but missed.
Gareth cast another Enervating Ray at Yoshi, but missed.
Yoshi struck Gareth twice.

The polar bear clawed and bit Fiona, but she remained standing.
Carric and Caelesti cast Magic Missiles at Fiona, dropping her.
Talon cast Cure Serious Wounds on Carric.
Mavis stepped on Fiona to flank Gareth with Yoshi; she stabbed him three times, dropping him.

Mavis looked very sad. She said they helped cause the party harm. She then explained that Gareth had been dominated by the brain-in-the-jar, and he wanted to kidnap Nessey, and she had helped. She didn't want to do it, but she followed her love. She helped the party to defeat the brain, releasing Gareth. She and Garreth felt really bad about the kidnapping, and then put up money in trade goods and helped rescue Nessey to atone. The party agreed that rescuing Nessey and helping defeat Fiona and Gareth was sufficient atonement for them. Others agreed. She continued to show remorse, and the others comforted her. She commented that the party was very accepting even though she wasn't human. Carric, surprised, asked what she was? She then turned into Nessey and explained that she was a monster. The party continued to say that she was welcome to stay as a "Weapon of Good". It was recommended that she not tell Nessey.

Nessey's notes

Scribe: Talon complains that Yoshi is not all that he was rumored to be.
Scribe: Yoshi whispers that Talon is an egotist who thinks anyone she fancies would necessarily fancy her.
Scribe: Talon, Mis Curvy, with Charm Spells, is indeed accustomed to having her way. ;-) ;-)
Scribe: We head West towards the town of Rowansmeade.
Scribe: It will be interesting, thinks Talon, to see what Yoshi's "type" is then! Hrumph!!
Scribe: We run into a road and take the fork on the left which appears more traveled.
Scribe: Some big nasty toads wriggle out of the ground and see us coming and wriggle back into the ground.
Scribe: Weretoads.
Scribe: Nematoads?
Scribe: Nematodes.
Scribe: Acutally round worms. Nematodes are giant round worms.
Scribe: We travel and travel and soon see the East Gates of Rowanesmeade.
Scribe: Yoshi praises his god.
Scribe: Talon asks if he will be donating all his treasure to his temple.
Scribe: He sighs and says no that's not what tithing is, quite.
Scribe: The men discuss stinky boots.
Scribe: Thankfully they do not take their boots off near us.
Scribe: Talon would like to go with Mavis while she barters and cashes in the goods.
Scribe: Mavis says, aside to Talon, that she is trying to teach Caelesti special things.
Scribe: Talon follows along too.
Scribe: Mavis accuses Caelesti of still being naive and inexperienced in certain ways.
Scribe: We witness Mavis bargaining shewdly.

Scribe: After a day or two, Mavis has disposed of all the goods and we have lots of gp.
Scribe: Yoshi tithes 1500gp to his temple.
Scribe: Mavis inquires and finds that Gareth is out of town. He left a message for her to leave him a message. She stomps her feet in sexual frustration.
Scribe: Carric expresses himself willing to console Mavis.
Scribe: We all get 15,000, except Yoshi, who gets 13,500 after his tithe.
Scribe: We can buy anything we can find.
Scribe: Up to value of 15,000 per item.
Scribe: Mavis wants gloves of DEX.
Scribe: +2
Scribe: She went to the weaponsmith of "The Guild" and is updating her rapier and cloak too.
Scribe: Yoshi wants a Monk's belt.
Scribe: We have to decide what we want soon.
Scribe: Talon asks about Caelesti selling her the wand?
Scribe: How much?
Scribe: Yoshi is also thinking about bracers of armor.
Scribe: Wand of Break Enchantment = worth?

Scribe: Mavis is anxious to talk to Nessey's parents and get more money.

Scribe: Mavis again pesters us about going to Nessey's parents' house.
Scribe: Talon comes to the door and speaks to the servant.
Scribe: He leads us into the house.
Scribe: He leads us into the waiting room or the sitting room, as each we wish.
Scribe: Butler returns and leads us into the next room with the Master and Mistress. A more sumptuous room.
Scribe: Nessey's Dad inquires as to where his daughter is now. Talon stammers and Carric Xammers.
Scribe: Brianna gave us credit Dad says.
Scribe: Mom says how delighted she was to see her daughter and arrange a marriage for her. But Nessey did not feel ready.
Scribe: She is glad Gameland is full of high class wealthy influential people.
Scribe: Carric - and far from here.
Scribe: Dad agrees. Mom kicks Dad.
Scribe: Dad winces.
Scribe: Talon complains of Carric's lack of diplomacy.
Scribe: Both Nessey and Brianna agreed that we rescued Nessey from the Amazon tribe.
Scribe: Mom and Dad ask why we didn't bring her back immediately.
Scribe: Carric says we had to find the best, safest route.
Scribe: Mom wishes Nessey had been back 9 months earlier.
Scribe: Carric agrees and so sad...
Scribe: But glad they found a high class finishing school.
Scribe: Dad agrees with delay in bringing back earlier. He says they deserve more.
Scribe: Mom thinks we deserve less for not brining her sooner.
Scribe: But Dad wins argument with Mom and they both agree we deserve award.
Scribe: Perhaps bonus.
Scribe: Dad says his daughter's welfare is of upper importance in his mind.
Scribe: Wife is appeased.
Scribe: They decide to give us each 2,000 gp each. And in addition he will tell townsguards not to look out to arrest us on sight.
Scribe: Carric promises to seek other finishing schools for Nessey.
Scribe: Talon suggests we look for good marriage matches for Nessey.
Scribe: Yoshi says these things sometimes have challenges.
Scribe: Dad calls a servant and asks us to wait in waiting room or sit in sitting room while servant brings money.
Scribe: He shakes hands with each of us. Talon slips him her entertainers card. Song, music, thrilling tales.
Scribe: We each have 2,000 gp more. (for talon that 1108 + 2000 = 3108gp)
Scribe: After a few days we have our upgraded items.
Scribe: And a day or two later Mavis receives a message saying Gareth has arrived back in town.
Scribe: Talon throws a girls party with Caelesti and Mavis and invites local hunky entertainer males she has heard of from other Bards at Inns.
Scribe: Yoshi and Carric are not invited.
Scribe: Yoshi goes to bed early.
Scribe: Carric perhaps puts on a mask and crashes the party with his weasel.
Scribe: Or not.
Scribe: He offered his services and it does not meet with the enthusiasm he was expecting.
Scribe: So he does not attend.
Scribe: Mavis is concerned and is saving herself for Gareth.
Scribe: Talon promises to hire some male strippers for Mavis to eye candy.
Scribe: Talon says Caelesti can dance naked with some of the stripper contortionists.
Scribe: Mavis says way to go Talon cause Caelesti needs some help with men.
Scribe: Caelesti dances nude with her snake.
Scribe: And none of us kiss and tell so I won't tell. ;-) ;-) ;-)
Scribe: A couple days later Mavis bursts into the Inn and tells us she got word Gareth is back and wants us to meet him at a house on the outskirts of town.
Scribe: Actually outside the town walls.
Scribe: Mavis is confused. They always used to stay in the best Inns in town. She hasn't seen him in a year and is anxious to go and report.
Scribe: Talon says perhaps Mavis would like some private time with Gareth.
Scribe: Mavis asks if she has served us well.
Scribe: Yoshi says yeah except for the occassional blood lust.
Scribe: Mavis says she is who she is but has served by our sides and done her part.
Scribe: Talon says she has always liked Mavis.
Scribe: After she read her mind or intentions or something like that. After first being suspicious.
Scribe: Carric says Gareth wants to get rid of business first.
Scribe: Mavis says she didn't always see everything our way when we started, but has bonded to us over time and travels.

Scribe: Talon thinks it suspicious that Gareth wants to see the whole party and outside of town instead of embracing his lover right away and privately.
Scribe: We agree to go with Mavis to the place Gareth indicated.
Scribe: On opposite side of road from graveyard - a small manor. Illuminated and cheerful.
Scribe: Mavis knocks on the door.
Scribe: Talon stands around the corner of the house.
Scribe: Butler says, Ahh young miss, you have come back to the Master, have you?
Scribe: Butler says we should all come while he gets the Master.
Scribe: Other rush in eagerly. Talon, around corner of house quaffs potion of invisiblity and then sneaks in behind the rest and lurks, standing in a far corner of the room while the rest of her friends accept evil comfy chairs.
Scribe: Mavis stands in the center of the room and bounces from foot to foot, eager to greet Gareth.
Scribe: Tan-Kuran flies around outside.
Scribe: Yoshi dubs the Butler "Creepy Butt."
Scribe: Creepy Butt leaves and then returns shortly later and bids us ALL come and follow him to greet the master. Creepy Butt's eyes wander independently of one another and then meet again.
Scribe: 5 or 10 minutes have passed.
Scribe: He leads through hallway into a larger room and bids us stop and wait.

Scribe: have another 17 minutes or so of invisibility for Talon.
Scribe: After 5 mintues.
Scribe: Perhaps have 15 mintues left now.
Scribe: A couple fighterly characters come though door.
Scribe: Then Gareth.
Scribe: Mavis says Darling I have missed you for sooo long!!

Scribe: Gareth shrugs and says the important thing is that she brought her friends back.
Scribe: He says, very good, in a sinister way.
Scribe: Yoshi determines he is being sneaky in some way.
Scribe: He then claims he was waiting lovingly for Mavis.
Scribe: Yoshi does not believe a word of this.
Scribe: He says we are together again and that's all that really matters.
Scribe: In through the door comes....
Scribe: Meanwhile Yoshi readies an action in a subtle way.
Scribe: Another woman walks through the door.
Scribe: Mavis looks at woman and "oh shit" registers on her face.
Scribe: Mavis steps forward and puts her hand in her pocket and hisses and says, "Fionna, what are you doing here?"

Scribe: The woman smirks.

Scribe: Gareth looks at Mavis.
Scribe: Mavis steps forward and staggers and stares at him and turns around and a rapier leaps into her hand and she opens her other hand with cletched fist. It holds a vial which she drinks.
Scribe: She is standing there with rapier looking at Yoshi and disappears.

Scribe: There seems to be no change in Gareth's behavior. Talon has thought perhaps her was under a domination of charm and that's why he was attached to Fiona.

Scribe: Yoshi lightly touches her shoulder with his fingers.
Scribe: Carric agrees that we forgive Mavis.
Scribe: Talon listens respectfully.
Scribe: Then Talon asks if Mavis knew anything about the Pig Cult.
Scribe: Mavis says Fiona was a priestess of the Pig Cult.
Scribe: Gareth was seeking out the Pig Cult.
Scribe: Mavis is soo, soo, sorry, she weeps and begs our forgiveness.
Scribe: Carric says Gareth must have fallen under the emotional influence of Fiona.
Scribe: Talon says Mavis was a great help to us in our adventures and if she needs friends, Talon is happy to keep her with our party.
Scribe: Yoshi says Mavis has learned and grown.
Scribe: Carric agrees.
Scribe: Mavis confesses she is not a human.
Scribe: Talon has wondered.
Scribe: Mavis's vision has been awfully good at night on watch.
Scribe: Carric says she is unusually good at disguise.
Scribe: Mavis shifts and her features look like Nessey.
Scribe: She talks almost as fast as Nessey.
Scribe: Her features change back to Mavis.
Scribe: She says she is not a human, but means us and Nessey no harm.
Scribe: She says she is not a human she is a monster.
Scribe: Talon - that's okay, Mavis, I'm part monster, see my scales.
Scribe: Mavis says Talon looks 98% human.
Scribe: But Mavis appreciates the sentiments.
Scribe: Mavis says she will not give up her special talents.
Scribe: Caelesti asks if Mavis will stay with us and use her talents for good.
Scribe: Carric - you take time to grieve, but we are your friends.
Scribe: Mavis wishes she could apologise to Nessey.
Scribe: But since Nessey is not here, let's not make waves, says Yoshi, in essence.
Scribe: Talon says when Mavis is ready, we will go find those dancing boys.
Scribe: Yoshi says there is evil here that needs to be explored and if Mavis wants to help us find the deeper root behind the plot Gareth was involved in, then she can stay and work with us.
Scribe: Mavis says she wants to grieve, though.
Scribe: But Mavis would be glad to help us in the future, if we do not shun her.
Scribe: We agree we would like her to join us.
