Carric cured Yoshi a bit, but he was still fatigued from his harpy encounter. The party then searched for, and found, the Wand of Faces. Nessey and Mavis argued on whether or not the wand should be sold or destroyed. More of the room was searched. The party found Chamferton's list of faces too; the party studied it for a bit (there were no names on it that the party recognized, but some of the questions were strange).

Mavis tied up Chamferton, even though Nessey slew the unconscious Foullitter. Carric cured his wounds until he became conscious. Yoshi began to question Chamferton, which was disrupted when Yoshi knocked him out for not being sincere. Carric cured him again. The next time Yoshi was going to smack him, Caelesti suggested pulling out a hair instead, since it wouldn't knock him out. After a few more bad answers, and a few more pulled hairs, Caelesti cast Charm Person on him. The spell was successful.

Caelesti convinced Chamferton that he had to answer the party's questions to survive, and he and Caelesti could escape in the middle of the night when most of the party is asleep and the one guard moves off to go to the bathroom. Chamferton told the party that his brother was Arkhan (the most questioned name on the List of Faces). He said that Arkhan "gave" him the wand. He also said that Arkhan used to own the castle. Through studying his answers and the types of the questions before and after Arkhan's name appeared on the List of Faces, the party decided that Arkhan could have been a good and just official of the law, and this Chamferton took the wand for his own evil purposes. The party decided to find the "good" Chamferton (Arkhan), utilizing any items found in the castle to help. Nessey and Mavis both kept lists of items taken for this purpose.

The party decided to complete their "mapping quest" and perhaps find out more about the clues to where Arkhan is located. They collected the faces from the lake, executed Chamferton, and returned to Xammer. Carric reported the party's adventure to Joumerie and was awarded the Periapt of the Sullen Sea (one of the set items he was seeking out).

Nessey's notes

Nessey: We just defeated Chamferton and we are about to question him.
Nessey: Yoshi absconds.
Nessey: We recap the battle.
Nessey: Foullitter appears not to be moving or breathing.
Nessey: Is the Hippogriff still chomping on Chamferton?
Nessey: Carric is still an Eagle.
Nessey: Mavis asks for Healing and he flies over with his eager beak!

Nessey: Carric asks if anyone else is damaged?

Nessey: Nessey and Caelesti may be okay. Yoshi is down in Ability points.
Nessey: The disease retrofits itself into -CON and exhaustion.

Nessey: Chamferton is slowly bleeding to death before our eyes.
Nessey: Carric wastes no more than a zero level spell.
Nessey: Yoshi is too tired to heal himself. He is so tired. He can't remember being so tired ever.

Nessey: He neither run nor charge and takes STR and DEX penalty and needs rest, rest, rest - which won't help wihout spell.

Nessey: Yoshi is anxious to interrogate Chamferton.
Nessey: Mavis tells Yoshi to search Chamferton for the Wand of Faces.
Nessey: The Wand of Faces is now ours - a unique and totally evil item! We can not in good conscious sell it.
Nessey: Mavis wants to learn about it and sell it.
Nessey: Nessey says its evil!
Nessey: Nessey - okay, how about we break it half and sell it and someone can "study" it.
Nessey: Mavis asks Yoshi if she can hold the Wand.
Nessey: Mavis wants to hold it in her backpack - for the group.
Nessey: Mavis says she is worried Nessey will break it.
Nessey: Yoshi says no one will break it.
Nessey: Nessey says okay as long as Yoshi holds the wand.
Nessey: Carric does a very minor heal on Chamferton and then tells him to arise. He is still unconscious.
Nessey: We apparently have to wait for Chamferton to wake up.
Nessey: Nessey says his henchmen might come in and slay us - or try to.
Nessey: Mavis says we need to search the whole castle and slay the henchmen and collect anything of value for its own safety.
Nessey: We search the room and find strong, southern wine.
Nessey: We find a nice dining room set.
Nessey: Nessey sits on the table and waits for Chamferton to come round.
Nessey: Others find a little book.
Nessey: It seems to be a numbered list from 1 to 72 with a name next to each number.
Nessey: The last two numbers 71 and 72 are Caelesti and Carric.
Nessey: And there is a series of tic marks by faces.
Nessey: Arkhan has scores and scores of tic marks.
Nessey: On the following pages - numbers and obscure sentences.
Nessey: Nessey wants to look up son of Blourbast and Pantiquod.
Nessey: What is your destiny?
Nessey: Will you live or die, Huld?
Nessey: For a season I will live and die.... etc.
Nessey: Yoshi looks for names we recognize. Nessey wants to look for interesting questions - cities we have been to, the plague, etc.
Nessey: Hulds name. Arkhan. No Blourbast or Pantiquod mentioned in the book.
Nessey: Rosebud of Betand.
Nessey: We recognize the city name at least.
Nessey: okay. update your website.
Nessey: We recognize any of the other names.
Nessey: All sorts of weird questions asked. Rosebud has been asked about childrens' nursery rhymes.
Nessey: Arkhan has always been asked the same question. The answer has been underlined and exclamation points added.
Nessey: Nessey - Who is number one.
Mavis: Figgus the Armiger
Nessey: Nessey - I wonder if he was the real "Chamferton?"
Nessey: All the first 20 or so appear to have been questioned one or two times at most
Nessey: Then, starting with Arkhan, #18, people have been questioned repeatedly.
Nessey: #19 is Nadine the Tragamor
Nessey: Nothing else of interest.
Caelesti: Carric uses his wand to cure light wombs?

Nessey: Chamferton looks puzzled at Yoshi - "says who?"
Nessey: Carric - do you deny it?
Nessey: Chamferton says he has been master longer than they have been there.
Nessey: Yoshi knocks Chamferton unconscious again.
Nessey: Yoshi is a brutal interrogator.
Nessey: And executioner.
Nessey: They bring Chamferton back with wand he says he didn't build the castle.
Nessey: He says he has been there 5, 10 or 15 years.
Nessey: He says no one living has more claim than he.
Nessey: No dates in the book.
Nessey: Nessey - what does Chamferton mean?
Nessey: Chamferton is confused by the disappearance of Caelesti.
Mavis: Nessey caught Caelesti with her "guard" down.
Nessey: Caelesti pretends she was under Nessey.
Nessey: But that is not the case, as can be seen.
Nessey: No Caelesti.
Nessey: Okay I can see Caelesti now.
Nessey: Caelesti moves close to Chamferton and pulls his hair.
Nessey: Chamferton is annoyed.
Nessey: Yoshi tells him to show respect, that there are no "pawns" here.
Nessey: Chamferton asks what they want?
Nessey: Yoshi - who was here before you?
Nessey: Chamf - I don't know.
Nessey: Yoshi - how did you come to be master here?
Nessey: Chamf - the castle was in disrepair. I fixed it.

Nessey: Yoshi wants to Intimidate.

Nessey: He dodges that one too.
Nessey: She asks about nursery rhyme.
Nessey: He says, oh, yes, Rosebud... old lore that shows up in form of nursery rhyme. The Shadow Bell and Daylight Bell.
Nessey: He says every wise person is interested in those.
Nessey: Cae asks more.
Nessey: He says Daylight Daybell rings and Nighfall, Shadow Bell rings and rules over the night.
Nessey: Caelesti asks how to make a mask of Yoshi.
Nessey: Chamferton wants to demonstrate.
Nessey: Nessey whispers to Caelesti to find out how to unmake these faces, not make more....
Nessey: Caelesti says, grumpy, she was getting there....
Nessey: Chamferton is suitably vague.
Nessey: He says he loooves to demonstrate.
Nessey: Caelesti says she and Chamferton can make masks of the rest of us after we fall asleep.
Nessey: Chamferton says the one of Caelesti can not be undone - not with the wand anyway.

Nessey: Chamferton - don't you trust me?

Nessey: Caelesti - ahhh, he's the one you question the most.
Nessey: Caelesti - where are you?
Nessey: Chamferton - I am here, trapped with you. I think you and me together could overpower Yoshi, what do you think?
Nessey: Caelesti says he is not the only enemy.
Nessey: She claims everyone else's lips are curled.

Nessey: Yoshi rattles off a long list of questions.
Nessey: Chamferton says he came to castle at invitation of his brother, Arkhan.
Nessey: Is Chamferton a title or your name?
Nessey: He looks paniced.
Nessey: He says it can be considered a title and his brother might have had that title before him.
Nessey: What were your plans with Foullitter and Pantiquod?
Nessey: Chamferton implies his plans with Foullitter were sexual and very personal in nature.
Nessey: Yoshi blushes and stutters.
Nessey: Chamferton says his plans, before they killed Foullitter, were to retire to his chamber and take her to his bed.
Nessey: Caelesti - do you happen to have a cure for Harpy bite?
Nessey: Chamferton - You are doomed if bitten by a Harpy.
Nessey: Caelesti - she doesn't bite you in bed?
Nessey: Chamferton - no, not in bed. Not at all, but I hope Yoshi has been bitten and is a dead man.
Nessey: Nessey - why was he taking people's faces?
Nessey: Chamferton - because he was interested in what they had to say.
Nessey: Nessey - but they age... more quickly...
Nessey: Chamferton - not that they could tell.
Nessey: Nessey - Look fella, Pantiquod said you had plans with her, so fess up.
Nessey: Chamferton says everyone is Pantiquod's friend, right?
Nessey: Nessey - nope!
Nessey: Chamferton brags about Pantiquod's daughter - before Yoshi killed her! He is very resentful.
Nessey: Chamferton glares at Mavis for pretending to be Pantiquod. Pantiquod would not have slashed him with a sword, he says.
Nessey: Yoshi claims Pantiquod has a twin sister.
Nessey: Caelesti says "she's a shifter" of Mavis.
Nessey: Mavis is nonplussed.
Nessey: Mavis gets defensive - shifter or demon.... etc.
Nessey: Mavis is mad at Caelesti.
Nessey: Yoshi wants to knock out Chamferton.
Nessey: Chamferton doesn't seem able to willing to be more helful at this juncture.
Nessey: Yoshi wants to knock out Chamferton and Mavis wants to do that too.
Nessey: They are birds of a feather and flock together.
Nessey: When Caelesti says stop, stop, Mavis suggests they knock her out too.
Nessey: Yoshi gives Chamferton one last time to talk.
Nessey: Chamferton declines.
Nessey: Caelesti says "don't knock him out." in a faky way.
Nessey: He gets knocked out by Yoshi.
Nessey: Yoshi thinks we should have asked if his brother still alive, but then recalls he is as we have his copy face and it has talked. Yoshi thinks the brother is a good guy.
Nessey: Yoshi thinks perhaps we should seek out the brother and recover him.
Nessey: Caelesti wants to question the faces.
Nessey: Nessey - that is not morally good since we are taking time off people's lives.
Nessey: Caelesti wants to know who we "know" it's a year off per question.
Nessey: Yoshi says it is just a supposition.
Nessey: Nessey says we can test it on Caelesti.
Nessey: Mavis says we can sell it to an expert.
Nessey: Yoshi recaps about the brother and asks why the brother had such a wand at all.
Nessey: Yoshi says perhaps the wand can do good things too.
Nessey: Yoshi says perhaps first faces were procured by nice brother and after #18 the false Chamferton made more faces and was asking questions all the time.
Nessey: First 17 questions were about suspicious looking people. And not many per face.
Nessey: "Who helped you commit such and such...."
Nessey: Yoshi thinks we must find Arkhan.
Nessey: Nessey - if someone has been keeping him safe, perhaps he will notice that his face is not longer being questioned and he will notice that and come back.
Nessey: Nessey - I think we should stay on track with Carric's outfit.
Nessey: Caelesti - but he is in trouble.
Nessey: Nessey - no, he is under protection.
Nessey: Mavis - protection of Bartelmy.
Nessey: Yoshi - it is possible, but not for sure. We have an opportunity to correct a great evil.
Nessey: Caelesti - and Arkhan might know how to undo these faces, esp if he is the one who made this wand.
Nessey: Mavis - what do we do with Chamferton in the meantime?
Nessey: Caelesti - put him in a closet.
Nessey: Nessey - he will starve to death.
Nessey: Mavis - we will put him underwater and leave him in the lake and then he won't starve to death.
Nessey: Yoshi - should we execute him?
Nessey: Mavis - we pull him out of the water and see how he is when he comes back.
Nessey: Nessey - then chop his head off right now before he comes to.
Nessey: Mavis suggests we question Foullitter.
Nessey: Yoshi - I believe she's dead.
Nessey: Mavis - what? what?
Nessey: Yoshi - for once, it was not you who decided she deserved to die.
Nessey: Yoshi questions everyone to see who finished off Foullitter.
Nessey: Everyone either denies or says nothing.
Nessey: Carric asks if we can make Chamferton more cooperative somehow.
Nessey: Mavis suggests waterboarding.
Nessey: Carric - speaks of wine.
Nessey: Nessey - says, yeah get him drunk on Southern wine.
Nessey: Carric - says be careful he doesn't pass out, though.
Nessey: Nessey - but he's used to it. He might just get drunk.
Nessey: Yoshi - we are not going to get more answers.
Nessey: Nessey - why don't you copy his face and ask it.
Nessey: Carric - the face doesn't lie.
Nessey: Caelesti - the face might not speak directly, though.
Nessey: Caelesti - we just don't know the right questions to ask.
Nessey: Yoshi - do you have any questions to suggest, Caelesti?
Nessey: Nessey - we could ask how many servants work here and who pays them.
Nessey: Yoshi - what gains us from that?
Nessey: Nessey - we would know whether to let the servants go or punish them?
Nessey: Yoshi - we just let the servants go regardless.
Nessey: Nessey - well, I would like to search the castle, I agree with Mavis on that.
Nessey: Mavis - ooo, ooo, I bet he has good stuff.
Nessey: Carric - we might find something useful.
Nessey: Yoshi - we can't steal his nice brother's stuff.
Nessey: Nessey - we shouldn't leave it here for the bad servants to steal.
Nessey: Caelesti - we use it to rescue him.
Nessey: Yoshi - we offer back to him everything left over from resuce mission.
Nessey: Yoshi - no exra pocketing.
Nessey: Mavis - I will make and keep a list of everything we find.
Nessey: Nessey also offers to keep a list.
Nessey: Mavis puts an arm about Nessey and calls her sister.
Nessey: Mavis says Nessey is really the sort to keep problems from coming back to haunt us - and looks meaningfully at Foullitter's dead body.
Nessey: Nessey - I want to keep evil from coming back.
Nessey: Nessey says to Mavis, aside, I admit I killed her, after I saw that the evil Panitquod was not finished off and came back to do evil on innocent people...I felt that her Harpy daughter should be prevented from doing harm again.
Nessey: Mavis - you are prejudiced against nonhumans.
Nessey: Nessey - just against Harpies and other people who choose to train to be Evil Gamesmen instead of good.
Nessey: Mavis twist words for some time.
Nessey: Nessey becomes less and less inclined to help out Mavis over the list of items.
Nessey: Nessey is making a list at the same time.
Nessey: Her own, very complete list.
Nessey: Mavis says Nessey doesn't understand sisterhood.
Nessey: Nessey ignores Mavis and starts her list with "1. Wand of Faces."
Nessey: Yoshi wants us to come to some conclusion.
Nessey: We search the castle and find various treasures.
Nessey: Mavis manages to steal some of the treasures of the castle without us noticing.
Nessey: Nessey and Mavis somehow do not have the same list.
Nessey: We are all searching together.

Nessey: Meanwhile, Yoshi stays with False Chamferton.
Nessey: We find valuables, but no clues.

Nessey: Next and only note - I don't understnd what happened to Arkhan.
Nessey: That's the only clue we find.
Nessey: Nessey - our mission is to go back with the map. Some gamesmen at the school might know something.
Nessey: Mavis - we should collect the faces.
Nessey: Carric wants to leave the faces.
Nessey: Nessey says they could get hurt and the hurt the people.
Nessey: Yoshi agrees.
Nessey: Mavis wants to reconsider leaving faces behind.
Nessey: Yoshi - let's collect ALL the faces and be on our way.
Nessey: We finish the map - lake and castle.
Nessey: Nessey - we have a story to tell.
Nessey: Yoshi - we have no other leads, so we go back to Joumerie.
Nessey: We pack and collect faces and head back to Joumerie.
Nessey: Do we avoid Pharb Durim.
Nessey: We can skip it.
Nessey: We also skip the Yoshi-Sex-God-Town.
Nessey: It takes us a week to get back.
Nessey: We encounter a citizen of Pharb Durim who says the people rioted, but the politicians talked them down and cast oil on their waters and it is the same as it ever was. Except Poffle is stronger than before as Blourblast is well again.
Nessey: We pass Betand and they are expecting the birth of the unborn and are happy.
Nessey: We make our way back to School Town and then to Xammer.
Nessey: There are games schools in both towns.
Nessey: Xammer is the high class girls school town.
Nessey: We find Joumerie.
Nessey: She asks Carric to tell what we learned.
Nessey: Carric speaks of the Lake of Faces.
Nessey: Is it show and tell with the faces?
Nessey: Carric gives her filled in map with lake and castle.
Nessey: She asks about Domain Master of castle.
Nessey: Carric speaks of Chamferton.
Nessey: Carric tells the whole story.
