The party began collecting saw stones from the chasm floor. Perhaps the Banders would attack them to get it. Then the party could respond in kind.

After collecting lots of gems, the party set up defensible positions on the far side of the net. Mavis and Caelesti practiced talking about the beauty and value of gems that they held. When Yoshi heard signs of the approaching Banders, Caelesti cast Mage Armor on Yoshi and herself. Mavis and Caelesti then picked up the gem conversation to lure the Banders over the net.

Most of the Banders started scurrying across the bridge.
Mavis readied her bow, Caelesti held a dagger, and Nessey drew her weapons. Yoshi took a defensive stance.
Carric summoned a large ape onto the bridge; the ape clawed one of the Banders.
Their leader yelled, "They attacked first, go get 'em boys!"
Yoshi tried to smooth over the situation. He called out, "Stand down and we'll heal your wounds."
Their leader called to have his men "stand down" and advance to "talk".
Yoshi told the party to wait for them to attack first.
Mavis stashed her bow and drew her sword.
Carric cast Speak with Animal and sent his ape away from the Banders on the bridge, but closer to their leader.
The Bander brigade closed on the party; they had swords out and leered.

Two Banders struck Yoshi. Yoshi swung a Stunning fist at one, but missed.
Mavis attacked one, stabbing him twice.
Caelesti cast Tashi's Hideous Laughter on one, but he shrugged it off.
Carric called to his ape and told it to attack. He then stepped back and started casting.
The ape closed on the leader and struck him with a clawed hand.
Nessey swung her two swords, striking once.
Roges struck one with a club.

Yoshi swung and missed again.
Banders struck Yoshi, Roges, and Nessey.
The leader and his son both struck the ape.
Mavis stabbed the same Bander twice, dropping him.
Caelesti cast Tashi's Hideous Laughter on another one. The Bander dropped to the ground in a fit of laughter.
The ape attacked the leader, clawing and biting. The leader fell.
Carric summoned a second ape behind some Banders attacking Yoshi. The ape missed.
Carric cast Magic Missiles the Bander first wounded by an ape.
Nessey raged and struck the Bander on her.
Roges missed.

Yoshi attempted to trip a Bander but failed. The attacked him back but missed. Yoshi tripped him in response and knocked him out.
The Banders all missed.
Mavis missed, but moved into position to flank.
Caelesti cast Tashi's Hideous Laughter on another one. The Bander dropped to the ground in a fit of laughter.
The first ape chased after the fleeing son and clawed him.
The second ape assisted Yoshi, clawing the Bander twice.
Carric drew his scimitar and also assisted Yoshi, but missed.
Nessey struck a Bander with a very nice shot.
Roges struck with his club.

Yoshi moved to flank one, but missed.
A Bander struck the ape with a very nice shot; the others missed.
The leader's son attempted to flee but was struck down.
Mavis stabbed at hers, but missed.
Caelesti cast Magic Missiles at one, dropping it.
The first ape poofed out.
The second ape dropped two Banders with slashes and bites; the one stopped laughing.
Nessey struck her Bander twice, dropping him.
Roges struck the remaining laughing one, dropping him.

Yoshi and Carric bound the wounds of non-dead Banders.

Nessey's notes

LadyN: Nessey = we think the Banders will be down here soon and we need to set up a situation that is in our favor for strategery.
LadyN: Mavis - they will come down for the treasure and there are saw stones, uncut gems, littering the ground.
LadyN: Yoshi - those stones are the property of the Bridgers.
LadyN: Mavis - the stones are no ones property.
LadyN: Nessey - we can take as many of these as we can carry and bring them to them, but we can also tell them they are here and they can go get more and so we can collect a few for ourselves.
LadyN: Yoshi - we should give all the Bridgers and let them give us some if they want.
LadyN: Yoshi - we should not behave greedily like the Banders.
LadyN: Yoshi - we should be offered some, not keep them on our own.
LadyN: Yoshi - these gems have value and my temple would be most grateful, but I am not going to just take them.
LadyN: Mavis continues to try to twist the conversation to make it sound like Yoshi is being a Bander or should or shouldn't take gems or not or whatever.
LadyN: Caelesti - but if these stones are just lying around then no one really owns them and what is wrong with ANYONE taking them - us or the Banders.
LadyN: Mavis - the Banders might use them for ill.
LadyN: Caelesti - What do you think Mercald?
LadyN: Mercald - this must be where the saw stones we have now came from.
LadyN: Caelesti - but who do they belong to and who can have them?
LadyN: Mercald - that is a good question and I am fine with everyone having some.
LadyN: Yoshi- we should still offer all to the Bridgers first.
LadyN: Caelesti - so we can keep some and still give away generations worth to the Bridgers.
LadyN: Carric - yes.
LadyN: Mavis - yes.
LadyN: Nessey - yes
LadyN: Yoshi - we still need to be gracious.

LadyN: Nessey - but we have to position ourselves strategically and pay attention for arrival of Banders
LadyN: Mavis points out that the other end of the net is by the end of the stairs.
LadyN: Mavis wants them to cross the net to find a gem and then pop out at them.
LadyN: Caelesti, Nessey and Yoshi say they will stand their ground openingly.
LadyN: Mavis - can we taunt them?
LadyN: Yoshi - we want to be clean here.
LadyN: Mavis - I bathed this morning.
LadyN: Nessey - me too.
LadyN: Mavis - I waited until Yoshi was out of the pool.
LadyN: Nessey - I was at the other end of the pool. Yoshi didn't see me.
LadyN: Yoshi - if you say so.
LadyN: Caelesti - we should sit and count gems and see if they attack us for treasure.
LadyN: Nessey - that's too provocative.
LadyN: Yoshi - no,no, it's not actually entrapment.
LadyN: Caelesti - we don't need to tell them there are more gems here. We just ooo and ahhh over a handful of gems and show them our treasure and see if they are nice about it or not.
LadyN: Yoshi - Mercald?
LadyN: Mercald - I approve. If they have evil in their hearts, they will show it.
LadyN: We all collect uncut gems.
LadyN: Caelesti insists on digging for gems, even though there are plenty just lying around.

LadyN: Mavis puts gems into her own special pouch after chorttling over each - emerald, topaz.
LadyN: Nessey draws her weapon and sits down to wait.

LadyN: She speaks of Amber and Jade... of precious and semi-precious.
LadyN: As we are talking, we might hear some sounds from opposite side of chasm.

LadyN: Mavis puts nice blue stone in her own pouch and tells Caelesti to ready herself.

LadyN: Yoshi takes a purely defensive posture. Nessey does the same.
LadyN: Carric conjures speak with Animals and tells Ape to cease attacking for a while
LadyN: Carric - hold on, Mister Ape. We don't know if they are enemies. Sorry, my Ape got a little agresssive, but he is okay now.,
LadyN: Yoshi - we will cure you if you stand down.
LadyN: Caelesti delays.
LadyN: Slysaw - alright boys, hold back, hold back.
LadyN: Slysaw - to us - they are peaceful. To his boys, "siddle on up."
LadyN: Yoshi braces himself.
LadyN: They hurry past the Ape.
LadyN: They come to meet us.
LadyN: Yoshi calls to Carric to cure Squint.
LadyN: Mavis looks with distrust at these 8 Banders who are leering at her and us.
LadyN: Mavis complains of leering.
LadyN: Yoshi whispers - we've blown it, Mavis, we need them to make the first move. We have to wait until they strike. We have no choice now.
LadyN: Mavis replaces bow and draws rapier and goes to defensive posture.
LadyN: Carric speaks Ape to Ape and tells him to back off a ways.
LadyN: Carric - claims to Slysaw that Ape is not aggressive, as he sends Ape to sit right next to Slysaw.
LadyN: Yoshi - you are not giving them enough opportunity.
LadyN: Nessey jabbers in a friendly manner about herself and adventuring and foods and such.
LadyN: Several of them drop their jaws as Nessey rambles nonstop.
LadyN: Yoshi readies a nonlethal attacki.
LadyN: The Banders begin to move into our space. They surround us nicely.
LadyN: Carric examines the wounds of Squint.
LadyN: The Banders look at us suspiciously. Some are holding short swords and clubs.
LadyN: Bile says - Da-da, what do we do?
LadyN: On the other side with Bile and Da, they go up the downstaircase.
LadyN: Mavis says - I don't like the way this is shaping up here. She takes a 5ft step, but remains defensive.
LadyN: Yoshi whispers to Mavis, we have lost our advantage.
LadyN: Carric makes a show of examining Squint's wounds.
LadyN: Carric tells Slysaw to examine his Ape. Ape follows Slystone.

LadyN: Yoshi - whispers - stop doing that - you are being aggressive - stop that!
LadyN: Carric sees that Squint is horribly wounded by two huge claws.
