Carric had become ill having been "gobbed" on by a beggar (the beggar had no choice, as beggars can't). The party continued scoffing at the rundown inn and then sprang for the fanciest inn. Mavis wanted to party in the plague-ridden town, but Caelesti wanted to enjoy the finery of the inn.

Carric survived the night, and nobody else showed any symptoms. At noon, Carric recovered his spells, but his Cure Disease spell did not seem to help him.

The party sought out other options to cure Carric. They heard rumors that the plague was caused by Blourbast, and another that he persecuted shadow people. The party speculated that shadow people may have cursed Blourbast and could possibly remove it, so they planned to head to the Shadowmarches.

The party checked out of the fancy inn, which confused the innkeeper as no one was allowed to leave town due to a city-wide quarantine. Mavis talked to the right people and discovered an unguarded gate used mostly by smugglers and the like. The party had no difficulty escaping through the gate and later observed small armies maintaining the quarantine of the city from the outside.

The party skirted Poffle and crossed the river west of it. As it got dark, the party set up camp.

On third watch, Yoshi heard drums and flutes. He woke Mavis. Mavis continued Yoshi's watch so that he could scout out the musicians. Yoshi discovered a large group of small humanoids making music and dancing. Yoshi returned to the camp to report.

The party, except for Carric, went to investigate the humanoids with Yoshi and Mavis moving silently in the lead. Yoshi hailed the group, which stopped the festivities. The party could not find a common language to talk to the humanoids, which turned out to be shadow people. Nessey went to get Carris so that even if they couldn't communicate, they might recognize Carric's symptoms and cure him anyway. Caelesti tried to buy time by using charades to communicate the party's friendliness. The shadow people interpreted the charades as dance and the festivities restarted. Caelesti danced for them until Carric's sickened presence and stopped the festivities.

The shadow people recognized Carric's condition and knew they caused it. Carric was also able to communicate with them via animal-speak. Carric told the party that they could cure him if the party could recover Ganver's bone from Blourbast.

Nessey's notes

Lady Nessey: We are now at the Bald Badger.
Lady Nessey: Carric has been gobbed by a begger. Yoshi averts his eyes.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti hygiene spells Carric before we arrive at Bald Badger.
Lady Nessey: Inn Keeper's name is Pantiquod
Lady Nessey: Colorless woman with slick seedy grey hair.
Lady Nessey: She tries to show us to a room at the top of the stairs.
Lady Nessey: We look at the room.
Lady Nessey: The coridoor is very dark and completely interior.
Lady Nessey: She tells us to share the beds. The straw is fresh and the linens were washed 2 weeks ago,
Lady Nessey: Nessey whispers to Yoshi, let's camp outside the town instead.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi looks askance at Nessey and backs away.
Lady Nessey: Carric - I didn't know you two were an item.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - I would only date a gentleman of distinction, a knight, and a poet.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod encourages us to take her econolodge Inn
Lady Nessey: She says the Mudgery Mont is many gp per night.
Lady Nessey: She also mentions the plague in the city.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi asks after the plague.
Lady Nessey: She says it's pretty serious. It is the Ghoul Plague. People get infected and weak and sick... But you will not have been exposed so you are safe for now.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - do the hopelessly sick people gob on others?
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - what does gob mean?
Lady Nessey: Nessey - cough up phlem.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - Yes and once they do that - the person who has been gobbed on is doomed.
Lady Nessey: Carric - how long until the symptoms show up.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - a couple hours.
Lady Nessey: Carric - and how long until they die?
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - They might live up to a couple days.
Lady Nessey: Nessey backs away from Carric.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod Palmfast pressures us to take the room.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti asks why the Inn Keeper is named after under garments.
Lady Nessey: Nessey says she is going to camp outside the town. But others can stay there if they want.
Lady Nessey: Mavis wants to go to Snooty Inn.
Lady Nessey: Carrics says they will walk around town a little.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi wonders who is in all the other rooms, but doesn't ask. He is a gentlemen and therefore never unintentionally rude.
Lady Nessey: We hear screaching from other rooms.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod asks if they find her pet offensive.

Lady Nessey: She says it is a bird who repeats itself.
Lady Nessey: Carric is impressed.
Lady Nessey: She says we came to town at a bad time.
Lady Nessey: She says they are not likely to let us out once we go in.
Lady Nessey: Carric - oh, is the town under quarantine?
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - yes I was surprised you came in.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - why didn't they tell us?
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - most people don't come near this town.
Lady Nessey: But we don't stop people if they want to.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - you can't trust those healers.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - do tell.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - someone got the healers to come here and told them they could not leave unless they healed us. They refused and were turned over to the Divulgers.
Lady Nessey: Then all the healers left us and won't come here.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - how did they get out?
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - What is a Divulger?
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - They have ways of making people talk and can do some mind reading. After some hours with them - Power of Moving and Reading - people tend to talk.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod and Caelesti talk about magic mumble jumble.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod says it is a form of psychic torture.
Lady Nessey: She says Healers refused to heal Blourbast, a hardy fellow who has not died yet.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - so how did the Healers get out?
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - in a sack.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi insists Pantiquod said so.
Lady Nessey: Then Pantiquod herself says, in their current state, they are just as useful to Blourbast.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - Then they didn't get out?
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - You are not very bright, Missy.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - stay here - the last people in this room didn't die of the Plague that I know of.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - but if they couldn't leave town, why did they check out and where did they go?
Lady Nessey: Carric - perhaps they were stabbed like normal people.
Lady Nessey: Pantiquod - I don't like your attitudes. Perhaps you should move on to another Inn.
Lady Nessey: We do.
Lady Nessey: On the way to the other Inn.
Lady Nessey: We talk about Carric, whose disease is soon to be manifested.
Lady Nessey: Mavis, I don't like this place.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - why don't we climb over the wall and get out of here.
Lady Nessey: We notice boarded up houses with Plague Here written on the boards.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - why are they advertising? Who would want the plague?
Lady Nessey: Mavis - it's a warning.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - why don't they write "Don't come in."
Lady Nessey: Nessey - why don't we climb over the walls and get out of here?
Lady Nessey: Caelesi - it is a lot easeir to fly over the walls.
Lady Nessey: Mavis - she claimed there was a plague in Poffle?
Lady Nessey: Nessey - I though she claimed the plague was caused by the Ghoul who lives in Poffle.
Lady Nessey: Mavis - Blourbast may have brought it on. Now no healers will come here.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - so, what's your proposal, Mavis?
Lady Nessey: Mavis - if we are all going to die, we might as well die in style.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - We would have to leave Carric and then he will just die.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - Carric can cure himself tomorrow.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - can he.
Lady Nessey: As we are climbing the hill, Carric grows faint stumbles, and falls to his knees.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - we need to fly him out of town.

Lady Nessey: He continues stumbling and feeling weak.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - Carric will not find a place for the night now, unless we put him in one of those boarded up houses. So let's fly out of here with him.

Lady Nessey: Mavis - are you suggesting we board him up in one of the Plague Houses and go stay at the nice Inn?
Lady Nessey: Nessey - No. I am suggesting we leave and he can Cure himself tomorrow.
Lady Nessey: Nessey looks for a place to escape town.
Lady Nessey: There is a big thick high wall around the town.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - fine. I'll go back and fight the guards and fight my way out.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - actually, I don't have enough fly spells for everyone now.
Lady Nessey: Actually she does.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - I think we should stay together and with the horses.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - someone else should be our spokesperson.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - as long as someone else asks for the room, we will probably get one.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says we can get Carric his own room and he can die in peace.
Lady Nessey: No one objects.
Lady Nessey: We proceed up the hill as best we can.
Lady Nessey: At the top is the Mudgery Mont.
Lady Nessey: It is poshy posh.
Lady Nessey: Nessey - Mavis - be our spokesperson now, instead of Carric.
Lady Nessey: Mavis leads. She puts on a big smile
Lady Nessey: A serious doorman stops her.
Lady Nessey: She says we are coming and looking for best rooms cause only the best is good enough for us.
Lady Nessey: She breezes through.
Mavis rolls Mavis Diplomacy (d20 + 4): [18 + 4] = 22
Lady Nessey: Caelesti says she wants to change out of her horrible street clothes.

Lady Nessey: Doorman lets us in.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says we want the best and are on the way through this town.
Lady Nessey: Concierge says he didn't know there was safe passage through town, but okay. He asks how many rooms. Mavis asks for 3 and stables for horses.
Lady Nessey: He says 10 gp per room per day and 2gp for the horses, combined.
Lady Nessey: He asks payment in advance for first day.
Lady Nessey: Mavis look pale at price but pays it.
Lady Nessey: One room for Yoshi. One for girls. One for Carric.
Lady Nessey: Carric says let's go to his room and open window and fly in so doesn't have to go through lobby.
Lady Nessey: Carric is outside with the horses.
Lady Nessey: Mavis wonders aloud if Carric should stay in the stables.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says Caelesti can collect Carric or open window for him to fly in.
Lady Nessey: Carric says "Kaw-Kaw" is much like "Kaugh-Kaugh."
Lady Nessey: We are shown to 3 light and clean rooms. Linens changed just this morning.
Lady Nessey: Show Yoshi to his room.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti and Mavis and Nessey are in one room - unless Mavis insistes Nessey stay in Yoshi's room. But neither Nessey or Yoshi are okay with that.
Lady Nessey: Open window to Carric's room and he comes flying in.
Lady Nessey: Mavis - what now?
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - let's enjoy it.
Lady Nessey: Mavis - let's go for a night on the town.
Lady Nessey: Caelsti goes and bathes in a hot bath.
Lady Nessey: Nessey gets a hot bath too, with fresh water, not the same bath.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti is totally unconcerned about Carric.
Lady Nessey: Mavis suggests we go shopping for a suitable coffin.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - I think Druids like Oak trees.
Lady Nessey: Mavis - yes, let's cut one down for him.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - when a Druid dies, so does an Oak tree?
Lady Nessey: Mavis - we can cut down a tree and let it fall on him.
Lady Nessey: That will be hard to do as we can not leave town.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi yields his room to Nessey and stays to tend Carric.
Lady Nessey: Carric tries to cough quietly and not on Yoshi.

Lady Nessey: Yoshi rolls a DEX check as needed.
Lady Nessey: We all sleep well. The next morning, Carric can't get out of bed.
Lady Nessey: We go down to eat. The breakfast is posh.
Lady Nessey: Though not fresh veggies.
Lady Nessey: Nessey goes down and eats too and sits at a table by herself.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi comes down eventually.
Lady Nessey: Mavis asks after Carric.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi says he is not well.
Lady Nessey: Mavis - ah, well, he will Cure himself in the afternoon.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - what if he doesn't?
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - what if it is a Curse type disease?
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - we will need to go to another town to find a healer.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - I don't think a Healer could heal a curse. But we don't completely understand magic here.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi suggests Mavis and Caelesti scout the town.
Lady Nessey: Nessey sits alone and enjoys her scones and hot cocoa.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti wants to collect rolls of names for some reason.
Lady Nessey: Nessey rolls her eyes from the other side of the dining hall.
Lady Nessey: Carric meanwhile dreams of reincarnation.
Lady Nessey: We pause for a disturbance in the kitchen among the scullery maids and lads.
Lady Nessey: Then we resume speculating about whether Carric will successfully Cure himself or not.
Lady Nessey: Carric can Cast Disease as an 8th Level Druid with special feet.
Lady Nessey: At noon, some of us enjoy a good lunch. Carric prays feverishly.
Lady Nessey: Carric feels warmed all over by Belanus.
Lady Nessey: Then he casts Remove Disease on himself.
Lady Nessey: He still feels sick.

Lady Nessey: Yoshi reports that Carric is dying and we are new party and need a new party name.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti and Mavis return and say they are blaming the plague on Poffle.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi asks if we need to go to Poffle?
Lady Nessey: Mavis says the rumor is the Blourbast was eating the flesh of Shadow Folk and they withdrew from the town.
Lady Nessey: Nothing makes sense to Nessey. So she zones out and has another bath.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says, to others, that Shadow Folk seem mythical.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi says Shadow folk seem evil.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti wonders if they cursed the town for revenge.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says there are rumors of a less guarded secret gate we might be able to get out of if we want to investigate or flee.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - let's go back to the university.
Lady Nessey: Mavis - which one?
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - which is closer?
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - both are too far away.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti - that doesn't leave a lot of choices.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - how far are we from Poffle?
Lady Nessey: Mavis - a few hours.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - Mavis, you seem to have gathered the most information so far. What do you suggest?
Lady Nessey: Mavis - well, if Blourbast is cursed. And plague spread to this town....
Lady Nessey: I have been talking.
Lady Nessey: Mavis suggests we go find the Shadow People. Perhaps they can uncurse us.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi notices Shadowmarches on the map we have.
Lady Nessey: But he is concerned over Carric's longevity.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi wants to help Carric in the meantime.
Lady Nessey: Carric might want to create a shadow with a potion or something.
Lady Nessey: However, we have entered a no logic zone.
Lady Nessey: Carric seems to think that summoning an Elemental might help.
Lady Nessey: Nessey thinks we should stay and debate longer so Carric will get sicker. (Sarcasm.)
Lady Nessey: Mavis says less guarded gate opens at the bottom of the cliff of the plateau the city is on.
Lady Nessey: We check out.
Lady Nessey: And Yoshi would like to leave.
Lady Nessey: Carric is not ready to check out totally.
Lady Nessey: Mavis does the talking.
Lady Nessey: She says we are going now and may come back soon.
Lady Nessey: Concierge wonders where we are going.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi just says Elsewhere.
Lady Nessey: Concierges says this is the Best Inn in Town. Are we checking into a Lesser Inn.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - we are simply going elsewhere. No explanation is warranted.
Lady Nessey: Concierge asks questions about service and amenities.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti says she was in bed all the time.
Lady Nessey: Concierge sees weak Carrc and thinks it was with him.
Lady Nessey: Concierge thinks we will be back.
Lady Nessey: We collect our horses and leave.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti thinks we need to leave the horses.
Lady Nessey: Carric doesn't want to pay 2gp a night.
Lady Nessey: Nessey doesn't want to leave our treasures.
Lady Nessey: We don't leave the horses behind.
Lady Nessey: Mavis leads us to seedy part of town and open secret gate and leads us through.
Lady Nessey: It is a smugglers' gate.
Lady Nessey: Mavis has the Masonic hand shake. That is how she finds out these things.
Lady Nessey: We sneak out in broad daylight.
Lady Nessey: We sneak along a trail and rejoin the road further along.
Lady Nessey: Mavis speaks of heading towards Poffle.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti says we have off-road mules. Actually, all hoof drive mule and one hardy war horse.
Lady Nessey: We see an army camped on the road ahead and preventing people from coming out of Pfarb Durim.
Lady Nessey: Pfarb might have let us out - but the army would not have let us on the road. They have many gamemen among them. Some with bows and Armiger costumes.
Lady Nessey: We are able to avoid them.
Lady Nessey: We are in the woods, looking down on the army. We decide not to rejoin road until much later.
Lady Nessey: We do so.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi wants to talk to the army.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says we would have to come up from behind them.
Lady Nessey: But we see another little group of armed people guarding a descent to a ravine.
Lady Nessey: We don't know which way to go.
Lady Nessey: Mavis suggests we sneak across the road and appear to come down from the north and see what army detachment has to say to us.
Lady Nessey: We do so
Lady Nessey: A soldier steps out and says "Halt, you may not pass." (heading south)
Lady Nessey: Yoshi wants Mavis to talk.
Lady Nessey: Soldier says Pfarb Durim is beseiged, under quarantine, a plague.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi asks about it.
Lady Nessey: Soldier says he thinks it comes from Blourbast. Soldier says he is of King Frogmort of the Marshes.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says we will turn back.
Lady Nessey: We appear to do so. We want to go to Shadowmarches anyway.
Lady Nessey: We go north.
Lady Nessey: Mavis says this is not a self-imposed quarantine.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - why was there no army on the other side to warn us not to enter?
Lady Nessey: Mavis says that might be Duke of Betand or Lake of Faces land. Not under juristiction of the Frog King.
Lady Nessey: Carric coughs once for yes and many times for no.
Lady Nessey: Only Yoshi walks next to Carric. His dodge is good.
Mavis rolls Mavis Reflex Save (d20 + 10): [16 + 10] = 26
Lady Nessey: Carric does his best not to cough at us anyway.
Yoshi rolls Sv:Reflex (d20 + 6 + 2 + 1): [9 + 6 + 2 + 1] = 18
Lady Nessey: In a rare moment of kindness, Nessey offers Carric her horse to ride, as he is weak and she is hardy.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - will you feel better if you shape change, Carric?
Lady Nessey: Carric - cough, cough, cough
Lady Nessey: We proceed and see some hills and a river.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi - let's follow the river and look for a shallow place to cross.
Lady Nessey: So we leave the road and follow the river.
Lady Nessey: We encounter a reasonable place.
Lady Nessey: We cross.
Lady Nessey: We are now on west side of river.
Lady Nessey: We try to get close to a hill in the north.
Lady Nessey: We are now in the Hill Country.
Lady Nessey: The sun sets.
Lady Nessey: The Bane Moon is rising and prominent tonight.
Lady Nessey: Carric looks for shadows. We see only the usual.
Lady Nessey rolls Nes - Survival (d20 + 2): [14 + 2] = 16
Lady Nessey: Nessey has Survival now too. She can look for a camping site.
Mavis rolls Stirge Blood Drain (d4): [3] = 3
Carric rolls Survival (above Gnd) (d20 + 17): [13 + 17] = 30
Lady Nessey: Carric, with Nessey's help, finds a good camping.
Lady Nessey: Can you hear me?
Lady Nessey: Okay.
Lady Nessey: Carric sleeps while the rest of use set up watches.
Lady Nessey: Nessey wants first watch. Yoshi wants 3rd.
Lady Nessey: Mavis and Caelesti take 2nd. Which means Mavis has second.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti watches the moon, on her back.
Lady Nessey: She watches the bright moon.

Lady Nessey: On third watch, Yoshi hears some drums and flutes in the distance.
Lady Nessey: Yoshi shakes Mavis awake.
Lady Nessey: She hears it too. It sounds like it is coming from up in the hills.
Lady Nessey: Mavis takes over watch. Yoshi goes to scout.
Lady Nessey: The bright moon is bright enough to light the way for Yoshi.
Lady Nessey: He doesn't have to use his potion of dark vision.
Lady Nessey: He climbs to the top of a hill - follows sound down and over another hill and another.
Lady Nessey: Finally, he sees a small fire with shadows dancing around it.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Move Silently (d20 + 10 + 2): [7 + 10 + 2] = 19
Lady Nessey: He moves as silently as he can.
Lady Nessey: He gets closer to the fire and see 2ft tall creatures.
Lady Nessey: They are cute.

Lady Nessey: Meanwhile, Carric is dying.

Lady Nessey: They are small with large, animate ears.

Lady Nessey: We left Carric with the horses.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti is dancing quietly.
Lady Nessey: There are 13 or 14 of the cute little tykes.
Lady Nessey: One of them says "boom, vroom, vroom, brawk, baak."
Lady Nessey: We can't talk to them perhaps without Carric.
Lady Nessey: Should someone go back and get Carric.
Lady Nessey: Caelestic does charades.
Lady Nessey: She shows that we are happy people.
Lady Nessey: They murmer and shove each other and then send out a spokesperson.
Lady Nessey: That person does a dancing Charade.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti does a Lizard Man dance.
Caelesti rolls Skill (Perform - Dance) (d20 + 9): [19 + 9] = 28
Lady Nessey: The drummer drum. Caelesti and her new friends dance together.
Lady Nessey: Flutes and drums go again.
Lady Nessey: They watch us.
Lady Nessey: They like it when others groove.
Lady Nessey rolls Nes - Tumble (d20 + 5): [9 + 5] = 14
Lady Nessey: Nessey does some tumbling.
Lady Nessey: Nessey goes back and gets Carric. She calls to him to follow.
Lady Nessey: Up comes Nessey, supporting Carric, who is not gobbing.
Lady Nessey: He is careful to gob into a hanky.
Lady Nessey: The happy dancing shadow people see Carric and stop in their tracks and stare.
Lady Nessey: As we get closer, finally Caelesti stops dancing. The last to do so.
Lady Nessey: Caelesti looks really sad and goes over to her poor friend Carric and acts like she is going to cry.
Lady Nessey: They realize he is afflicted with their curse.
Lady Nessey: Carric tries to talk to them.
Lady Nessey: He casts and tries Elemental talk.
Lady Nessey: He tries speak with animals. He can communicate with them in a limited way, as they can communicate with animals too.
Lady Nessey: They ask if he eats Shadow people.
Lady Nessey: He says no, he innocently passed through town.
Lady Nessey: They look at each other and shrug.
Mavis: Ganver's bone
Lady Nessey: They say Blourbast steal Ganver's bone.
Lady Nessey: Carric asks what Ganver's bone looks like.
Lady Nessey: They hold up hands 9inches apart.
Lady Nessey: They say bring us Ganvers bone.
Lady Nessey: Nessey says it will easier to accomplish task if Carric is well.
Lady Nessey: Is Blourbast the Ghoul of Poffle.
Lady Nessey: We need to go to Poffle and get the special bone from him.
Lady Nessey: Blourblast. Blourblast. Blourblast. Blourblast. Blourblast
Lady Nessey: Carris may only have 24 hours to live.
Lady Nessey: We must haste to Poffle.
Lady Nessey: Carric says we will all die from his phlem if we don't go to Poffle to make him better.
Lady Nessey: Is this a good stopping place.
