Caelesti's notes

Date

06/13/2008

Log

The party was greeted on Midwall and led to the Bridger House. Plans were made to stay on Midwall for the night. Nessey said she did not want to stay in the Bridger House with Banders who might cut her head off, so left with Mercald to stay in the Birder House. The others stayed in the Bridger House.

Yoshi retrieved Nessey in the morning. The party ate and headed out early.

The party traveled until noon and looked for a cave to hide in while Carric recovered spells. While the party waited, the group of Banders passed. The party eavesdropped on Bander conversation, overhearing that they planned to 'play' with Beedie and the party. Mercald again said that those words were not sufficient to convict them. Caelesti suggested that she could bait them into showing their true intent, while the rest of the party lay in ambush. The party agreed to the plan if they could pass them at some point to set up ambush in a cave off the path.

After the break, the party continued their journey. With the intent of locating the Banders, Carric sent Tan Kuran ahead to scout for them. Tan Kuran and the Banders spotted each other. Tan Kuran then flew back up toward the party, clueing the Banders that they were in fact in the lead. To avoid a Bander ambush, the party made plans to climb down to a lower level and avoid the stairs.

Carric set up his Troll-gut Rope, which stretched 350' downward. The group, except for Carric, climbed down 300' to a lower root. Carric, as a mountain lion, chewed through the knot of the rope, allowing it to drop down below. Carric then climbed down to rejoin the party. Yoshi set up the rope for the next climb, and the process was continued. The party continued doing this until they reached Bottommost. Though it was still day, illumination at Bottommost was at best Twilight.

The party was led to the Bridger House. The Bridger leader was pleased to see the party two days ahead of schedule. The leader said that the Thing was spotted the day before. It was a giant worm, 6 man-heights long and as wide as a house. The worm was chewing on the stairs leading to Midwall.

Carric wanted to see what was down below. He cast Daylight on an object and dropped it over the edge. The light went down and down and down -- and out.

The party stayed at the Bridger House over night. In the morning, they headed down the no-longer-maintained stairs below Bottommost. The party used rope to aid their safe travels. The air was very damp, as were the stairs. Tan Kuran could no longer fly and stayed perched on Carric's shoulder. Unusual puffy fish flew by.

The party climbed the stairs downward for the day, reaching the remnants of where Lostbridge used to be. The nearby stumpy end of Lostbridge was worn smooth from years of water erosion. The party located a suitable cave to sleep in. They kept watches all night long.

On the third watch, Yoshi and Mercald smelled something odd. The rotting smell was getting stronger, so Yoshi woke the rest of the party. Carric, Mavis, and Caelesti went over to the edge of the chasm and looked down. A giant worm was eating its way upward.

Nessey's notes

LadyNessey: We debate being prompt again pushing on from Midwall.
LadyNessey: Should we stay overnight or push on?
LadyNessey: We decide to stop for a meal.
LadyNessey: We have nothing accepted here as money, though.
LadyNessey: So we go to the Bridges on Midwalls.
LadyNessey: Nessey says - why not go to the Birders.
LadyNessey: Carric thinks the Bridgers will make us a better meal
LadyNessey: Yoshi agrees.
LadyNessey: Monks tend to their tummies.
LadyNessey: As we move onto the Midwall bridge.
LadyNessey: An urchin runs up to us.
LadyNessey: He says "Ahhhhh, travels from Nextdown, Oh (stares speachless as Caelesti)"
LadyNessey: Caelesti - Hi!
LadyNessey: Urchin - Hello, Green Woman.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - I am Turqoise, but near enough.
LadyNessey: Only Mavis blends it. The rest of us stir the urchin's curiosity and awe.
LadyNessey: Mavis has "acquired" some local clothing, mysteriously.
LadyNessey: Mavis - we are nextdown from nextdown.
LadyNessey: Urchin - shows us the way to Bridge House.
LadyNessey: Carric invites him to walk with us.
LadyNessey: Actually half the party blend in, since we have locals accompanying us.
LadyNessey: Urchin is happy to lead the way.
LadyNessey: We spend 10 minutes talking about good names for male kitties.
LadyNessey: Pombi is the crowd favorite.
LadyNessey: Pombi has taken over as DM.
LadyNessey: Urchin runs into Bridge House and announces us as coming from TopBridge, not just Nextdown.
LadyNessey: Carric does not offer him pink frosted cakes.
LadyNessey: Urchin touches Caelesti's glittery skin.
LadyNessey: Caelesti is gracious about it.
LadyNessey: Man comes out and says I am Longshanks of Midwall.
LadyNessey: Explains that Longshanks is an early nickname that stuck for good.
LadyNessey: He is the leader of Midwall, leader of Bridgers of Midwall, and of all of Midwall. apparently.
LadyNessey: It is after - noon.
LadyNessey: Carric wants to stay over night here rather than spent a night in some dank cave.
LadyNessey: Nessey says the Banders are likely to come and stay overnight here and in the same house and she does not trust them and she thinks they may try to slit her throat in the middle of the night and then her head might fall off and she might not like that and so she refuses to stay in the same house as the Banders might stay at and so she insists on staying at the Birder House and so Mercald says he will go with Nessey to the Birder House and tell her about the Boundless.
LadyNessey: Eventually the Banders do show up and they do NOT stay the Bridger House on this Bridge.
LadyNessey: In Nextdown they were the dominant Bridger Clan, but they are not here, so they stay away from other Bridgers here.
LadyNessey: Beedie explains this later after Nessey has gone off.
LadyNessey: There appears to be more than 20 Banders who have followed us from above.
LadyNessey: Yoshi claims to not be suspicious.
LadyNessey: Mavis asks therefore it they will keep following us?
LadyNessey: Carric thinks they will follow.
LadyNessey: Beedie - what time do you want to leave in the morning?
LadyNessey: Carric - Early!
LadyNessey: Beedie - who will go get Nessey and Mercald?
LadyNessey: Yoshi - I will. I get up early.
LadyNessey: Light filters down into Midwall and Nessey asks more questions of Mercald like how the Boundless gets from one Bridge to another - does it climb the stairs or glide with leaves.
LadyNessey: Mercald says the Boundless is not a creature, the Boundless is ALL and we are all a part of the Boundless.
LadyNessey: When Yoshi comes to get us in the morning, Mercald is tired and horse and bleary eyed. Nessey slept less than usual but used her magic sleeping bag, so still feels relatively refreshed.
LadyNessey: Mercald asks Yoshi to take Nessey away NOW while he packs his things.
LadyNessey: Nessey explains to Yoshi that the Boundless has a hole and is infinite like a donut that goes round and round.
LadyNessey: Nessey goes off to powder her pretty nose and Mavis takes the opportunity to control the Emperor's Drone - perhaps.
LadyNessey: Or that just her delusion? Or her alternate personality?
LadyNessey: Nessey asks if there is some special tea for a sore throat?
LadyNessey: Caelesti says not to talk much today so Nessey does not lose her voice permanently.
LadyNessey: Carric says don't talk and walk a lot and will cure it. He suggest we head out right now.
LadyNessey: Yoshi boasts that 20 Banders are no match for us, so we should not consider them and their plans.
LadyNessey: Mercald gives Nessey a lozenge to calm her throat
LadyNessey: Sorry, Carric boasted not Yoshi.
LadyNessey: Nessey's throat feels better and strangely she doesn't feel like talking much.
LadyNessey: We tred down the stairs. Around Noonglow, we stop in a cave for Carric to pray.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Listen (d20 + 10): [11 + 10] = 21
Carric rolls Listen (d20 + 5): [10 + 5] = 15
LadyNessey rolls Nes - Listen (d20 + 6): [2 + 6] = 8
Caelesti rolls Skill (Listen) (d20 - 1 + 2): [17 - 1 + 2] = 18
Carric rolls TK Listen (d20 + 4): [11 + 4] = 15
Mavis rolls Mavis Listen (d20 + 16): [15 + 16] = 31
LadyNessey: Everyone with 20 or more on Listen thinks they hear commotion on stairs above us.
LadyNessey: Yoshi and others signal to us to be quiet.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Hide (d20 + 2): [3 + 2] = 5
LadyNessey: Yoshi attempts to stick his head out and not be seen. He seems to think that as long as his ass is covered, no one can see him.
LadyNessey: Fortunately no one is close enough to spot him.
LadyNessey: Yoshi wants Mavis to scout.
LadyNessey: Mavis says, Just listen.
LadyNessey: A bunch of noisy people come down, making no effort to be quiet.
LadyNessey: We recognize some particular Bander voices.
LadyNessey: Da, Da, they seem to be moving quickly. They always get up before we do Da.
LadyNessey: Slysaw - I'm sure they will be happy to talk to us when it is just us and them.
LadyNessey: Byle Bander says I'd sure like to play with some of them, like Beedie.
LadyNessey: Slysaw, chuckles, I'm sure we will all have some "play."
LadyNessey: Byle, I'm sure I'll have a great time
LadyNessey: Mercald, well, all they said was that they want to play.
LadyNessey: Nessey - aren't judges allowed to consider tone of voice?
LadyNessey: Mavis - I don't think I want to play with them.
LadyNessey: Yoshi, oh, are you sure, Mavis?
LadyNessey: Mavis - I don't look at things the same way as Mercald.
LadyNessey: Beedie is white and speechless.
LadyNessey: Beedie - I have never liked Byle Bander. I am going to stay far away from him. Come on, Mercald, surely you know what they are talking about. Surely you understand? (After she is given some water.)
LadyNessey: Mercald - words are different than wrong doing.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - But once they cut off Nessey's head, then we've got them
LadyNessey: Nessey clutches her throat.
LadyNessey: Carric - I would take vengeance on those Banders even if you were only nearly headless, Nessey. Take comfort in that.
LadyNessey: Nessey's eyes narrow. She does not look comforted.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - shoudl we not be sure we confront them in a way best suited to us?
LadyNessey: Mavis - ah, yes, we should choose the tactical situation.
LadyNessey: Yoshi- yes, that is exactly what I was thinking. you know, if we chased them right now, we would have the high ground.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - we could set up the circumstances.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - we can not do that.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - I mean if I walked alone and the rest of you were in hiding...
LadyNessey: Yoshi - they might show their true colors.
LadyNessey: Mavis - walking alone is dangerous.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - I could pretend I was lagging behind and trying to catch up with my party.
LadyNessey: Nessey - how does Mercald feel about this, he's the judge.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - I don't mean provoke. I mean give them the opportunity to show their true intentions.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - we might do it tommow once we are ahead of them. One of us alone and the rest of us in the cave.
LadyNessey: Yoshi then backtracks modestly saying he is not a tactical person.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - maybe Caelesti's plan is better?
LadyNessey: Nessey - how are the two plans different?
LadyNessey: Yoshi -Caelesti's plan is for us to be ahead,. Mine is to come upon them from behind.
LadyNessey: Caelesti and Yoshi debate about using a cave or not as part of the plan.
LadyNessey: Nessey - so, are we doing this today or tomorrow.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - tomorrow.
LadyNessey: Nessey - but that's from Bottommost and Bottommost might not have stairs to a Bridge that disappeared.
LadyNessey: Yoshi asks our guides about stairs or not.
LadyNessey: Beedie thinks there might be tattered remnants of stairs.
LadyNessey: Nessey - I don't want to fight on broken stairs.
LadyNessey: Mavis - what if we spider climb past the Banders when they stop on THESE stairs on the way to Bottommost?
LadyNessey: Beedie - these are long stairs and we will not likely get to Bottommost tonight.
LadyNessey: Carric - I don't have enough Spider Climbs for all of us.
LadyNessey: Mavis - What? What? You didn't come prepared!
LadyNessey: Yoshi - we should have come up with this plan yesterday.
LadyNessey: Mavis - I assumed Carric always carried Spider Climbs. What about your Troll Gut rope?
LadyNessey: Or that your natural aroma, Carric?
LadyNessey: Carric - I don't know, it's only 350 ft.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - how safe is the climbing here abouts? He looks around the cavern walls.
LadyNessey: Beedie - these roots are never safe enough without mechanical support.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - what is the worst if I fall?
LadyNessey: Beedie - those who fall are never seen again, like when Chasm justice is administered.
LadyNessey: Carric - do you send them down with or without leaves?
LadyNessey: Beedie - for the worst offenders, they are shown the bottom of the cavern without leaves.
LadyNessey: Beedie - we won't get to Bottommost tonight/
LadyNessey: Yoshi - how dangerous to travel at night? We have means of light.
LadyNessey: Beedie - I don't advise lights if we might trip over Banders sleeping on the Bridge.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - why doesn't someone turn into a bird and scout ahead? nudge, nudge.
LadyNessey: Mavis - I believe that had been our plan before. nudge, nudge
LadyNessey: Carric - I can send Tan Kuran.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - and if we have a chance to sneek past the Banders, I suggest we do that.
LadyNessey: Carric does his Eagle and sends off Tan Kuran.
LadyNessey: Tan Kuran circles and flies down over the stairs and circles and floats and circles, etc.
LadyNessey: Yoshi to Carric - are you sure Tan Kuran won't become dinner?
LadyNessey: Carric - I told her to stay out of range.
LadyNessey: Carric demonstrates the Eagle dance for that.
LadyNessey: Eventually Tan Kuran sees a group lounging on the stairs and pointing at her and making unintelligible (to Eagle) sounds.
LadyNessey: Larger humans are looking up the stairs and at Eagle and up the stairs again.
LadyNessey: Tan Kuran flies back up.
LadyNessey: Speak with animals has worn off. Carric could keep dancing, though.
LadyNessey: He casts another talk with animals and does his special dance.
LadyNessey: or perhaps that is Caelesti dancing and I'm hallucinating again.
Carric: no hear ye
LadyNessey: Tan Kuran pauses to cough up a ball of bones and hair from some rodent.
LadyNessey: Anyway. Tan Kuran says she saw large group of humans, some of whom pointed at her.
LadyNessey: Carric - said we should go in front of them and then send Tan Kuran down to fly back up so they think we are behind.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - would they do an ambush?
LadyNessey: Yoshi - yes, but now we ARE behind.
LadyNessey: Mavis - How can we change that?
LadyNessey: Mavis - they are sure to set up an ambush now. Let's send Caelesti down.
LadyNessey: Nessey - she can run back up and we can set up our own ambush.
LadyNessey: Mavis - can you outrun them, Caelesti?
LadyNessey: Caelesti - You guys find a cave and I'll go down, but won't they just wait down there for us?
LadyNessey: Mavis - I think so, yes.
LadyNessey: Carric - but they would have seen us spider climb anyway
LadyNessey: Mavis - not at night when they are sleeping.
LadyNessey: Caric - I should always carry one of those spells around here.
LadyNessey: We imagine we hear owlbears until Taylor says "goodnight"
LadyNessey: Nessey - if one person goes ahead and they might show themselves...?
LadyNessey: Yoshi - no, then they'd pick us off one by one.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - how do we remain out of sight?
LadyNessey: Nessey - any potions of invisibility?
LadyNessey: Carric - we should have give Tan Kuran invisibility.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - too late. Who has the rings of communication.
LadyNessey: Mavis - you do.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - scout needs to take one of the rings.
LadyNessey: Mavis runs through list of her potions and spells available.
LadyNessey: Caelesti, characteristically suggests we have no plan and just see what happens.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - what if someone who is "bait" has an invisible companion?
LadyNessey: Caelesti - they probably won't kill me immediately. They will probably grab me and tie me up.
LadyNessey: Nessey - but then they will do more than "nuzzle."
LadyNessey: Mavis - they will "play" with you - whatever that means to them.
LadyNessey: Carric examines the stairs more closely and sees they are made of roots.
LadyNessey: Mavis - I am not proposing we drain all my potions for this one encounter.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - My point is that if they grab me and rough me up is that enough to convict them?
LadyNessey: Nessey - if they molest her that is a problem.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - that's fine.
LadyNessey: Mavis - that is NOT fine.
LadyNessey: Nessey - Spoken like a Man, Yoshi!!
LadyNessey: Yoshi - now, now, I just meant they have to go far enough to provoke lethal response, What say you Mercald?
LadyNessey: Mercald - yes, lethal response does require more than tying her up. But "playing" with her in any number of evil ways would require extreme force from us in rescuing her.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - do we want to provoke that?
LadyNessey: Caelesti - If I'm tied up, I can't help fight, though.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - I guess if we are clear we should avoid a lethal response unless that is the only way... (he continues to muse aloud) I am concerned about things getting out of hand.
LadyNessey: Mavis - Didn't Rootweaver say "whatever means necessary?"
LadyNessey: yoshi - but Mercald is our present judge of that.
LadyNessey: They consult Mercald.
LadyNessey: Mercald says we don't have justification yet.
LadyNessey: Mercald says they did say they would like a chance to talk to us without anyone else around. That does not mean physically accosting any of us.
LadyNessey: Mercald - if they get physical - that's proof to me they are up to no good.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - what are the parameters of our response?
LadyNessey: Mercald - they have to attack first.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - I am more concerned about the grey areas.
LadyNessey: Nessey - define those, Yoshi?
LadyNessey: Yoshi - that is the problem.
LadyNessey: Mercald - it's not grey - they attack or they do not. If try to grab you they are attacking. If they simply taunt or talk, that's okay.
LadyNessey: Nessey - perhaps I should go ahead as I have a special cloak to protect me against grabby men?
LadyNessey: Nessey - or I could loan this cloak to Caelesti?
LadyNessey: Yoshi - there is grabbing and then there is Grabbing.
LadyNessey: Nessey explains her cloak of thorns
LadyNessey: Nessey gets on her high horse about womens rights and grabby men.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - but I could escape easier.
LadyNessey: Nessey - you should borrow my cloak.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - I don't I really need it.
LadyNessey: I am willing to go ahead as bait as I am.
LadyNessey: Nessey - you should still have someone invisible like Mavis right behind you.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - once I hear that something is up, I can move very quickly and we can use these rings.
LadyNessey: Mavis, why don't you go down invisible ahead of Caelesti and you and I communicate with these rings and i will come up behind Caelesti.
LadyNessey: Caelesti thinks she can handle it alone and lead them up the stairs to the whole party.
LadyNessey: Yoshi thinks they won't come up to us.
LadyNessey: Nessey agrees with Yoshi at this point.
LadyNessey: Yoshi says we can come back down as a larger group.
LadyNessey: Nessey - I think Mavis should go ahead invisible and Yoshi behind.
LadyNessey: Mavis if only, if only we could get ahead of them.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - I don't see how we can, so that's out.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - let's face it these guys are more experienced on Bridges and Roots than we can.
LadyNessey: than we are
LadyNessey: Beedie speaks of suspicious fires again and how she can't prove it.
LadyNessey: Nessey recalls Beedie's tale of how most of her family died in a fire and suspected the Bridgers.
LadyNessey: Beedie says Banders moved up from below.
LadyNessey: Nessey - so the Banders are from Bottommost originally?
LadyNessey: Beedie - they are more recently from Nextdown. I don't know the lower Bridge where they lived before.
LadyNessey: Six of my family died in a root fire on Nextdown.
LadyNessey: I hear sounds and hid myself and saw old Slysaw chuckling along. But I can not prove he lit the fire. Me and rest of my clan moved to Topbridge to get away from them on Nextdown. They are the main clan on Nextdown. That's why they stayed in the Bridger House there. That's their house. Now they are ahead of us. That is worrisome.
LadyNessey: Beedie looks over side and says we are directly over Bottommost now.
LadyNessey: Beedie - maybe we climb down 350 ft at a time. I bet we could get ahead of them.
LadyNessey: Nessey - but would they see us?
LadyNessey: Yoshi - them seeing us is okay. It still puts us ahead of them.
LadyNessey: Nessey - they don't have any range weapons?
LadyNessey: Beedie - we don't have weapons only tools, like knives for cutting roots.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - how do you fight Pombis?
LadyNessey: Beedie - we don't. That's why Firstbridge was destroyed by Pombis
LadyNessey: Nessey is amazed.
LadyNessey: She can not imagine not being prepared to defend ones-self.
LadyNessey: Yoshi leads in case someone slips.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Climb (d20 + 2): [18 + 2] = 20
LadyNessey: Nessey has some skill in climb
LadyNessey rolls Nes - Climb (d20 + 3): [13 + 3] = 16
LadyNessey: Carric - we can repell against the chasm as we go down the rope.
LadyNessey: Caelesti- or do a reverse bat climb!
LadyNessey: Carric - can we pick a spot where we are unlikely to be seen?
LadyNessey: Caelsti - who goes last?
LadyNessey: Nessey - can Carric turn into a bear and hold the rope and then climb down as bear?
LadyNessey: Caelesti - would 350 ft be enough to get us down ahead of them.
LadyNessey: Mavis - I don't think any one of us can hold seven of us at the same time.
LadyNessey: Nessey - doesn't the gut rope untie itself?
LadyNessey: Carric - nope. We could do a slipknot and I could pull it with my jaws.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - you could bite through it and it would reheal.. It would be like spaghetti to you. Aldente
LadyNessey: nessey - how long does the rope take to heal if you bite it?
LadyNessey: Carric - it lasts for 12 hours. It would become smaller and smaller until the next day.
LadyNessey: Mavis - eventually we will be climbing down a 5 ft rope.
LadyNessey: Nessey - any sum can be infinitely divided.
LadyNessey: Carric - I could be a mountain lion and climb at 20.
LadyNessey: Carric I could turn from mountain lion into Eagle if I happen to fall.
LadyNessey: Carric - how fast do you guys climb?
LadyNessey: 15 ft every 6 seconds says Caelesti. Yoshi brags he is faster.
LadyNessey: Thunderbirds are Go!
LadyNessey: Yoshi reveals his deprived childhood.
LadyNessey: Caelesti suggests we "take ten" when we climb.
LadyNessey: Caelesti says we can climb at twice rate she originally thought because of adding ten and subtracting 5.
LadyNessey: So plan = we tie rope. we climb down. carric is mountain lion who eats 1 ft rope each time. then rope falls down to us. then mountain lion climbs down.
LadyNessey: Mavis wants to confront them on stairs to no-longer-existing bridge.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - I don't think we have advantage on broken stairs and being lower ground.
LadyNessey: Carric has a complicated plan of having Tan Kuran make the Banders think we are still above them all the time.
LadyNessey: Yoshi does not see how that helps cause they will stay in ambush spot forever.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - exactly and then they will starve to death.
LadyNessey: Mavis - I don't think they will stay up there foreever.
LadyNessey: Mavis - I want to sleep in comfy lodging in Bottommost.
LadyNessey: Carric - okay, let's do it.
LadyNessey: We do the plan of climbing and dangling and mountain lion biting rope and eating troll gut spaghetti.
LadyNessey: It is Carric's troll gut rope and he can eat 300 feet per day for extra ratios if he wants.
LadyNessey: We go all the way to Bottommost and get there before dark.
LadyNessey: What we find in Bottommost is =
LadyNessey: We land just outside the small house of Bridgers with small guest wing.
LadyNessey: Compared with Topbridge, it is narrow and confined.
LadyNessey: It is darker. Like nighttime much sooner.
LadyNessey: It doesn't get much on Bridge at any time. Mostly lighted by Fish Lanterns. Fish Lanterns all over the place, blue and green and less amber.
LadyNessey: Does get much light except Lanterns.
LadyNessey: When we look up we see =
LadyNessey: So, Mercald, tell me more about the Boundless Donut?
LadyNessey: Mercald is speechless!
LadyNessey: Yoshi lectures us about provalactics
LadyNessey: We are surprised a good Monk knows so much about these things.
LadyNessey: Bottommost has very narrow nets on either side otherwise would be catching garbage from other Bridges above.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - perhaps Lostbridge collapsed under the weight of everyone's garbage?
LadyNessey: the atmosphere down here is dense and damp. Carric is not sure he can fly well here.
LadyNessey: Tan Kuran is going to be walking or perched on Carric's should if she goes down further with us.
LadyNessey: Carric listens for water from below.
Mavis rolls Mavis Listen (d20 + 16): [11 + 16] = 27
Yoshi rolls Sk:Listen (d20 + 10): [7 + 10] = 17
Carric rolls Listen (d20 + 5): [14 + 5] = 19
LadyNessey rolls Nes - Listen (d20 + 6): [1 + 6] = 7
LadyNessey: None of us hears water from below.
LadyNessey: Nor Pombis.
LadyNessey: Carric has an idea =
LadyNessey: My idea is to for me to cast daylight on an object and throw if off the bridge and see how long we can see it.
LadyNessey: Carric does so to impress the natives is nothing else.
LadyNessey: Nessey - you and I can both treat them to same daylight, Carric.
LadyNessey: Carric, let's make our introductions first. Then I can say, watch this.
LadyNessey: We go to Bridgers House. Guest wing is barely large enough for us all. We are provided food and eat it quickly.
LadyNessey: We meet the eldest Bridger of Bottommost, "Eldmost" who wrings his hands at our speedy arrival and not ready for us. H e
LadyNessey: His name is Quickaxe, actually even though he is the Eldmost here in Bottommost.
LadyNessey: He talks about a THING they saw 2 days ago. A huge worm thing. Smelled bad and was chewing on the stairs of roots.
LadyNessey: Surprised you didn't see it chewing on those stairs down to here. Those stairs were damaged and we didn't fix them yet.
LadyNessey: Caelesti - those stairs might be checked out soon by a group of Banders coming down.
LadyNessey: We figure out it might be 40 ft long and wide at guest house room
LadyNessey: Carric compliments Nessey on her Boundless voice while she is making suggestions.
LadyNessey: Quickaxe says it seems to be coming up from below. He is glad but afraid for us that we are going below. He says the stairs have not been maintained.
LadyNessey: the stairs to Lostbridge
LadyNessey: Quickaxe will show us to the old rotting stairs though. He is afraid for us that there might be more than one worm.
LadyNessey: Nessey says it might eat its own tail like a Boundless Donut.
LadyNessey: Carric agrees. As does Caelesti.
LadyNessey: Carric shows off his daylight on an object and throws it down.
LadyNessey: Nessey suggests feathers.
LadyNessey: Carric suggests leaves of some kind.
LadyNessey: Caelesti says that might offend them.
LadyNessey: Nessey - how about a copper piece.
LadyNessey: Carric - that would fall too fast.
LadyNessey: Carris takes a copper piece and ties a handkerchief around it and casts daylight on it and blinds all the residents of Bottommost.
LadyNessey: Carric throws it over and it floats down.
LadyNessey: Radius of the light is 60ft from center point.
LadyNessey: 120 otherwise
Yoshi rolls Sk:Spot (d20 + 13): [8 + 13] = 21
LadyNessey: We see light fluttering down in darkness, nothing else. Eventually there is a tiny spot of light that doesn't appear to be moving.
LadyNessey: then the light dims and we don't see it anymore.
LadyNessey: Carric - that was interesting. I hope you natives found that illuminating.
LadyNessey: Quickaxe - boy, I'm glad it is not that bright generally, that was really unpleasant, we'd have to stay inside and hide with light like that all the time.
LadyNessey: We go to sleep and post watches.
LadyNessey: We have 8 people - what are our watches.
LadyNessey: Mercald should not have to watch tonight as he is tired,
LadyNessey: Nessey offers to take first watch.
LadyNessey: Who wants to sit with me.
LadyNessey: Mavis offers to sit with Nessey "in silence"
LadyNessey: Nessey says she knows how to do that, learned it from the Amazons.
LadyNessey: Mavis asks Nessey about the two riders from Otter Tribe who galloped ahead and why she lagged behind.
LadyNessey: Nessey says they were hunting they saw a rabbit
LadyNessey: She says she figured two men could handle a rabbit without her.
LadyNessey: Mavis - then why were they killed?
LadyNessey: Nessey - they were killed by the Amazon women - because only we Amazon women have the right to hunt rabbits in those woods. So there.
LadyNessey: Mavis - well, that seems harsh to me, but okay.
LadyNessey: Carric sends Tan Kuran up to deceive them into thinking we are still behind them.
LadyNessey: Yoshi and Nessey don't understand what we gain by that.
LadyNessey: Caelesti and Carric enjoy messing with their minds.
LadyNessey: Caelesti- after all the Banders said they want to "play"
LadyNessey: We debate awhile about the blessings of Eagle Shit.
LadyNessey: Then Quickaxe shows the stairs to Lost Most Bridge.
LadyNessey: We go down and the stairs are decrepit.
LadyNessey: Carric - maybe we could use the rope?
LadyNessey: Nessey - yes, yes.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - we can all fall together.
LadyNessey: Carric - the entire rope is pungent, though, if we use the gut rope.
LadyNessey: Carric - that's more fun than regular rope
LadyNessey: Nessey we can each be tied/connected to the rope until we find a good ambush cave.
LadyNessey: In the morning it is perpetually dark twighlight.
LadyNessey: It's the Twighlight Zone!!
LadyNessey: Twilight
LadyNessey: We look for a good cave for a good ambush
LadyNessey: Should we go all the way to bottom before we fight the Banders or not.
LadyNessey: We don't decide.
LadyNessey: We just keep going.
LadyNessey: Eventually we notice fish swimming in the air.
LadyNessey: Tan Kuran can no longer fly and hitches a ride on Carric's shoulder.
LadyNessey: They are special moist air puffer fish.
LadyNessey: mavis - do not light one. They might be filled with dangerous gas.
LadyNessey: It is very damp.
LadyNessey: We go down all day.
LadyNessey: Eventually the stair come entirely to an end and looks like roots had been pulled out to make a Bridge Town - except roots had been worn away by acid a long time ago.
LadyNessey: No sharp breaks to tell the tale.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Spot (d20 + 13): [3 + 13] = 16
LadyNessey rolls Nes - Spot (d20 + : [4 + 8] = 12
Caelesti rolls Skill (Spot) (d20 - 1 + 2): [12 - 1 + 2] = 13
Mavis rolls Mavis Spot (d20 + 16): [18 + 16] = 34
Carric rolls Spot (d20 + 13): [7 + 13] = 20
LadyNessey: Mavis has the best spot this time.
LadyNessey: Mavis points to the width of former Bridge and see that the stairs keep going down over there.
LadyNessey: Whoever install Lostbridge used to have stairs going down from there.
LadyNessey: Yoshi - is this really Lostbridge? It seemed to easy to get down here. Why wouldn't the natives investigate?
LadyNessey: Nessey - probably scared?
LadyNessey: Carric - they are not the kind of people who like to explore, they are happy between top and bottom bridges.
LadyNessey: Mercald - it is not that we are scared. It is that the Boundless does not will us to go to other places.
LadyNessey: The Boundless has communicated bounds to the people of the bridges.
LadyNessey: We can not tell time here by light. It is always dark now.
LadyNessey: Carric has already stopped to pray in a cave on the way down here.
LadyNessey: We feel like we could stop for the night here, in a cave, or continue down.
LadyNessey: There is a night wind that gets pretty strong once the sun sets way up above.
LadyNessey: That's why we want to take shelter in a cave.
LadyNessey: The night wind has perceptibly started. We seek shelter
LadyNessey: It is warmer as we go down.
LadyNessey: That's good as it is too humid to light a fire anyway.
LadyNessey: Carric - we should keep watches.
LadyNessey: If the Banders gave up their ambush, then they might be sleeping in Bottommost by now.
LadyNessey: We might be a day ahead of them.
LadyNessey: Nessey offers to take first watch again, with Mavis
LadyNessey: Yoshi is on third watch.
LadyNessey: Carric with Yoshi
LadyNessey: that means Caelesti's on second watch
LadyNessey: Or no, perhaps Carric should be on first watch.
LadyNessey: Mavis says she has sharp eyes but only that.
LadyNessey: Mavis wants to watch with Nessey. Nessey is supposed to have better vision at night
LadyNessey: Nessey suggests Mercald sit up with Caelesti on second watch and talk about the Boundless.
LadyNessey: Tan Kuran wants only to sleep.
LadyNessey: Mercald wants to stay up with Yoshi and preach to him about the Boundless.
LadyNessey: Mercald and Yoshi are therefore on last watch.
LadyNessey: Carric and Caelesti are on second.
LadyNessey: We all sit in silence, except for the third watch when the men of the cloth compare piety.
Yoshi rolls Sk:Listen (d20 + 10): [12 + 10] = 22
Yoshi rolls Sk:Spot (d20 + 13): [19 + 13] = 32
LadyNessey: On third watch they make spot checks.
Mavis rolls d20: [18] = 18
LadyNessey: There is a bit of twilight now.
LadyNessey: Both Yoshi and Mercald notice foul odor coming from below. Odor wasn't there below.
Yoshi rolls Ability:Constitution (d20 + 2): [16 + 2] = 18
Yoshi rolls Ability:Wisdom (d20 + 3): [5 + 3] = 8
LadyNessey: Smells like rotting semi sorta acidic sort of like rotting flesh and lemon juice.
LadyNessey: Odor - how close does it seem?
LadyNessey: It seems to be getting stronger.
LadyNessey: Yoshi wakes up all of us and whispers to us.
LadyNessey: He cautions us.
LadyNessey: Carric pokes his head out and looks, using his darkvision.
LadyNessey: Carric and Mavis rush to the edge to look.
LadyNessey: Caelesti runs over too.
LadyNessey: Nessey draws her weapons for two handed fighting.
LadyNessey: Cae, Car and Mav see worm slinking up the side of the chasm in our direction, eating its way up.
LadyNessey: It is not moving fast. We stop here in game.
