After studying the map, the party headed northwest, staying on the plains until nightfall. Yoshi had a dream "if it seems to him, that he sees fish, that will be rain."

In the morning, the party continued northwest until they reached the forest. The party then turned west, using the forest as a reference. As camp was being set up at nightfall, terror birds attacked.

The terror birds charged from all directions. The birds bit Yoshi, Caelesti, Carric, & Mavis before anyone could react. Yoshi struck the bird that bit him once. Carric moved out from the middle of two birds, getting bit again, and attacked one of them, but missed. Mavis' weapon leapt to her hand, and she swung it at the bird on her, hitting once. Caelesti cast sleep on the one that bit her, but it had no effect; she then used her anklet of translocation to "step" behind Mavis. Yoshi, Mavis, and Talon were each bitten. Talon tossed jumping caltrops on the ground by the bird that bit her.

Yoshi struck the same bird twice more, but it was still up. Carric ran away. Caelesti attempted to cast magic missiles defensively, but flubbed the spell. She then drew her dagger. Mavis struck the bird on her. The bird on Yoshi missed him, the one that had bitten Caelesti bit Mavis' mule, and the two birds that were on Carric bit Talon's mule and Caelesti's horse. The bird by Talon bit her, staggering her. Talon stepped back and cast cure light wounds on itself.

Yoshi struck the bird on him once more. Carric started a summoning spell. Caelesti used her anklet of translocation to "step" behind the one on Mavis, flanking it; she then stabbed it in a vital spot. Mavis stabbed it in a vital spot, dropping it. The birds bit Yoshi, Mavis' mule, Caelesti's horse, and Talon's mule; Caelesti's horse fell. Talon moved to place herself between her mule and the bird attacking her.

Yoshi hit his bird once more. Carric summoned three bears, two on the bird by Talon, and one near Mavis' mule. The latter bear charged the nearest bird, and was bitten as it arrived. The two bears by Talon clawed her bird, hitting three times. Carric then cast cure light wounds on himself. Caelesti moved to the next bird; Mavis moved to flank it, getting bitten while she moved, and struck the bird in a vital spot. The bird by Mavis' mule switched to the bear, dropping it. The one on Caelesti's horse bit and dropped it. The bird on Talon switched to the bear. Talon stepped back and cast cure light wounds on her mule.

Yoshi hit his bird once more. The two bears flanked their bird, hitting four more times. Carric shot magic missiles at the one on Yoshi, dropping it. Caelesti and Mavis, flanking, each stabbed the bird in vital spots, dropping it. The one bird returned to Mavis' mule, dropping it. The two birds by the bears attacked, hitting once. Talon led her mule away from the bird near it.

Yoshi delayed. The bears attacked the birds near it. Carric moved to Yoshi and cast cure light wounds on him. Yoshi then advanced to the bird on Mavis' mule, striking and stunning it. Caelesti cast magic missiles on the badly hurt bird between the bears, dropping it. Mavis moved to flank the stunned one, stabbing it in a vital spot. The bird by the bears attacked one, dropping it. Talon moved up near Mavis and cast cure light wounds on Mavis' mule.

The remaining bear charged the bird near it, getting bitten as it arrived, but clawed the bird. Carric cast cure light wounds on Yoshi. Yoshi attempted to trip the bird, but failed. Mavis stabbed the bird twice in vital spots, dropping it. Caelesti cast magic missiles at the last bird. The bird killed the last bear. Talon cast cure light wounds on Mavis.

Carric started a summoning spell. Yoshi moved to the last bird, struck at it, but missed. Mavis approached the final bird. Caelesti cast magic missiles on the bird. The bird bit Yoshi. Talon moved next to Yoshi and cast cure light wounds on him.

Carric summoned a bear, placing it to flank the bird with Yoshi. The bear clawed bird twice. Yoshi hit the bird. Mavis moved to flank as well, and dropped it with a well-placed hit. Talon moved to Caelesti's horse and cast cure light wounds on it.

Talon used her remaining spells and her healing belt to cure Mavis and Yoshi somewhat. Carric used his Wand of cure light wounds to cast a couple more cures.
