The next day, the party squelched and squirched threw the muck while Carric worked to triangulate on the shard. As the party neared it, they heard whistling. As the party listened, the saw a figure approach. Carric saw an assimar male approaching. Carric hailed the figure, stating that it was unusual to see another assimar in the swamp. Talon and Siobhan, who saw a human female, and Caelesti, who saw a fey-touched female, were taken aback by the comment. The party argued about who was wrong.

The figure said that it found some ruins in the near area, pointing in the direction that the party had been headed. The party stopped bickering to hear more. The figure produced a stone, claiming it was from the ruins. It wanted to show Carric the stone. When it drew near, it reached out to touch Carric, who backed away quickly. It tried to touch Carric again, missing again.

Carric backed up and cast Entangle in an attempt to trap the figure, but the figure moved out of the area. Talon and Siobhan both started singing. Caelesti cast Sleep on it, but it was unaffected.

Carric drew his scimitar and attacked the figure. He seemed to damage the creature, but his weapon was damaged severely by acid. The creature then turned and grabbed Caelesti, burning her with acid. With the touch, Caelesti could see the creature for what it was, a hideous oozing humanoid. Siobhan threw an Enthrall spell at the creature to no effect. Talon shot a crossbow bolt into it, surprising it. Caelesti tried to break free, but couldn't.

Carric moved to Caelesti and cast Resist Energy (Acid) on her to protect her from additional acid damage. The creature released Caelesti and sprayed acid into the area, damaging everyone. Siobhan cast Soundburst on the creature, stunning it and doing damage as well. Talon shot another arrow into the creature. Caelesti shot Magic Missiles at it and moved away from it.

Carric swung a club at it, but missed. Siobhan cast Soundburst on the creature again, dropping it. Talon shot it again anyway.

The creature, not surprisingly, had no treasure. Siobhan cast Mending on Carric's scimitar, repairing it.

The party decided to set up camp early and recuperate. Siobhan and Carric cast cures on everyone. The party tried to relax as best they could, and ran regular watches through the night.
