The City of the Spider Queen - Day 30 - Initial exploration in Maerimydra

Veracity's notes

Tebryn reports to us that something is impacting all magic within the cavern. Good news: if casting necromancy spells or death spells or evil spells, sister, you will find those spell empowered... if casting healing, will struggle to even get it off...How is your Spellcraft? Brianna looks sheepish. Undead will be boosted. Yol will be happy here! Rest of spells not impacted one way or the other. We can choose spells for the day, knowing this. Veracity takes more evil spells to take advance of the magical field. Veracity does not veil her Holy Symbol of Lolth. Not carrying lights. Humans can see, but not particularly well. We all understand the "Undercommon" language except Igor. We Drow (and Brianna) also understand Drow

We creep out of our hideaway and make our way to the partially damaged Inn. We stop and look both ways before stepping into the street. Door is intact. Hazen is spooked and suspicious and checks for trapped. He notes no traps. Igor knocks on the door. Kress steps forward and opens the door. Igor looks in. See room with stairs going down. Drow with crossbow cocked and pointed at Igor's head.

"Do not move. Who are you and what are you doing here?"

Igor babbles in Common. Veracity pokes her head in and see him wearing holy symbol of Vaerun, Male Drow god, Lolth being female and big cheese, but men following god of theives and sneakiness. I greet him and tell him I'm Veracity seeking refuge.

He says, "there is no room here!"

Igor begins to babble again, but Veracity pulls Igor out of doorway and consults with Tebryn and Brianna.

Igor and Kress are being unruly and itchy for action. Veracity holds them in line! "He's scared, don't threaten him! Stay back!! Stay out here!!"

We agree to let Brianna poke her head in to talk to him. He points his crossbow at Brianna. Brianna realizes he's scared. "We are not trying to threaten you in any way. We have newly arrived in this city and things are not as we expected. What is going on?"

He lowers weapons, says, "Enter quickly."

We all enter. From behind pillar comes another Drow, also cautious. He does not have a range weapon. He's back-up. "My name is Kaarus. That's Chiirikk."

Then he whistles and slowly and cautiously up the stairs comes a drow dressed stylishly in black and grey, short black hair with white roots, graceful of movement. He walks up holding a hand crossbow in front of him. "Hail! What say you, Kaarus?"

Kaarus, "strangers to our city, they want to know what's going on here...they might be useful." speaking in code is mainly all we know.. .but those of us speaking Drow get the gist of it.

Kaarus introduces Hamadh to Brianna. He says, "Explain yourself!"

Brianna, "Well, we arrived her in the city yesterday. Snuck our way in and found the destruction that is all around us here. We are looking for allies. Trying to find out what is here. We aren't really sure what to do because we don't really know what's going on here."

"Why would I want to align myself with you? You are just refugees."

Brianna responds: "We are not what we seem."

"If we are going to work together, we must all come clean."

Igor floats up into the air does a fly and a flip. Hazen disappears and then reappears again.

"Your tricks are impressive, but I am not comfortable opening my home without knowing to whom I'm opening it."

Veracity drops the Veil on us all and puts a hand on her short sword. All three jaws drop and they stand a little taller, hands on hilts, but not threatening.

Veracity, "Satisfied?" in Drow.

He realizes Veracity speaks with authority. "Who are your pets?"

Veracity introduces the non-Drow, "We lead them, of course, but we have found them very useful and reliable."

Veracity diplomacy check, good but not great role. He goes from indifferent to friendly. "You were asking what is going on here?"

Veracity, "You seem to be oppressed. I don't feel good about that!"

"Kurgoth has sacked the city and seiged the castle...We can help you get to and perhaps, with flying, pass over the siege lines...must not been seen and avoid patrols and flying demons. Undead of those previously slain are used to attack their own city..."

Yol, "Have you heard anything about an Undying Temple?"

"No, I have not. I have heard that there is some sort of Force in the castle that Irae controls."

Veracity, "What are your own plans for freeing your brethen?"

"It is our desire to get rid of both Kurgoth and Irae and return our city to its previous power structure. Our primary goal is to find allies and drive the invaders out!"

Tebryn, "Where is Kurgoth's headquarters?"

"He's at the coliseum."

-stopping point- It is morning. We finish the day sharing freshly roasted mushrooms with them and chat until the next day, when we do more reconnaissance work on Kurgoth's headquarters, for example.
